Hi y'all,
I'm pre-everything FTM. I'm just wondering what kind of negative side effects T may have. I took birth control pills in order to supress menstruation for a week, and I suffered from headache, fatigueness and emotional instability. So I stopped taking them, and as soon as my periods came back I had a HUGE menstrual cramps.  :-\ I mean the pills I was taking had only 1mg of progesterone. I was frightened how much hormones affect the body, so I reconsider taking T.
Thus I would ask y'all about side effects of T. Also I present as an androgynous male, so I don't want to be TOO manly (like body hair and ->-bleeped-<-). how much can T change your body? Is it possible to get only chest reconstruction surgery without taking T?
Thanks!

hi you can talk to and endo to find a proper T level for you even if you are super sensitive to hormones. you can get top surgery without taking T but you might want to take estrogen blockers to prevent regrowth of breast tissue.

Thanks! you helped me a lot! I need to see a doctor first...(I probably will next year after I graduated from HS)

Whether an effect is positive or negative depends on your point of view. You can look on many sites to see all possible effects of T on a female bodied person.

Very true. I wouldn't consider body hair growth to be negative but you might. The only one I find to be a negative side effect is acne. I barely had acne before and now I have to use proactiv and pills to help it. But even then I never said I wasn't a drama queen hahah.
The story is the same, I've just personalized the name.

body hair for me is positive or negative depending on where and how much..

the only negative effect I really noticed so far is that I for some weeks ago had a huge headack, my mom got migrena so I might have got it and then my headack got worse after starting T..

well my skin also got dry witch annoyed me in the start but now I dont really mind..

There aren't really any "side effects." The medical literature will describe everything that T does as a "side effect," but really they're all just "effects" - the effects of having male blood chemistry. That goes for everything from the increased muscle mass to the body hair to the possible acne increase to the increased cardiovascular risk profile.

When you talk to a doctor about T, they'll give you all of the "side effects" you can expect in one nice list.

When I first started T, I had a red face and hot flashes for a little while.
That's about the only unpleasant effect I can think of that I'm pretty sure was related to beginning T.
Compared to the side effects of estrogen (visible in hindsight)...well, holy crap, where to begin.

I wasn't ever happy with any of the female stuff. Enough to be willing to accept whatever T gives me. So I don't think of hair, acne, etc. as negative. I think of it as part of the puberty necessary for that little boy of years ago to finally be able to grow into a man.

Check out Hudson's FTM guide. Most effects of T are listed there:

My bad cholesterol jumped from pre-T to the first blood test when I was on my regular dose.

I'm pre too but...

I remember some people saying they went through a "bloated face" stage because of water retention, but this is very temporay, maybe a month to a few months.

Also, there may be a higher risk of reproductive cancers such as cervical cancer, I forget why (probably somehting to do with the various hormones interacting within your body), which is hwy it is often recommended to have those organs removed... but it's not something you need to do right away if you decide to do it. It won't happen within a few years of taking T ... probably more like a decade or more.

As Da Monkey said, acne is often one of the biggest issues. I'm personally really worried about this because I'm already prone to bad acne. But just drink lots of water, use a good facial cleanser or if it does get bad, talk to a dermatologist to find a medication that will work for you.

As for mood and things like that, I don't really know. There are jokes about "'roid rages" but (steroid rages) but I'm pretty sure that's a big myth. You're not going to turn into a raging macho man.

Personally I can't report anything negative like headaches from T. I'm free of the normal female hormone pains, though. : D
