I had to search through old personal papers today and found my birth certificate.

It says: Gender. Boy.  I'm pretty sure boy is not a gender, it is a sex?

Is that enough to question? Or am I clutching at straws

Sometimes straws are worth grabbing. I always thought all birth certs  used male or female. Using boy seems strange like someone figured you would never grow up to be a man. I wonder if they knew how right they were if that were so.

Tell them 'boy isn't a gender, I want a new one, this time let me write it'.

I've never heard of boy on a birth certificate. Odd.

That old country doctor who filled it out didn't have a bureaucrat mentality like you seem to expect.
