Hi,

I'm new here, just posted my intro elsewhere......

Anyway, I'm a few months into HRT, and my PCP suggested to me last week that I switch from the estradiol + spiro combination to estradiol + prometrium.  I was expected to start prometrium, as I understand the benefit that progesterone can have, especially in the growth phases of being on HRT.  What I didn't know about though was that prometrium would negate the need for the spiro?  My PCP tells me it's an effective anti-androgen, and she is experienced with trans issues (she's post-op herself and has many trans patients).  Is she correct here, or should I be pushing to have my spiro prescription restored?

Thanks!

Kate.

If prometrium is a progesterone then no because you need something like spiro to cut down your testosterone to allow Your e and p to work :)

Prometrium (generic: Endogest, or Utrogestan) is 'Micronised Bio-Identical Progesterone".

Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is something different AND stronger, synthesised progestine, and THAT is used as an AA.
It also blocks E to some degree by the way.

The diff. is something like between estradiol (17β-estradiol), and ethinyl-estradiol (EE),

Just an update on this.  I spoke with my PCP / GP regarding my concerns on not having Spiro as well as Estradiol and Prometrium, and that only the synthetic progesterone act as an anti-androgen.  She admitted that she'd never looked into the difference and was happy to put me on all three.    :)

Thanks for the advice.
