My work is giving me a service van, and one of their main customers. They are a manufacturing company that makes medical equipment.
It is an extremely automated facility, and there is extensive plc control work, of which I am pretty sharp at. The problem lies in that I havent come out at work.
Now I am being put in a public position to a degree, I am anxious over the future. My spouse and I have decided just to roll with it for now, as it pays extremely well. However, I feel as though I am betraying my boss, and he is being very nice to me.

Since when did your gender affect your work skill?

thats not what I am implying at all.

Not that I think anything other than my skill should have a bearing on my employment, however the fact is I am going through a pretty significant transition. I understand that we shouldnt be considered any different than anyone else, however at this point in time we are.
I also am not implying that my company will discriminate against me. I am however going into a public position and will be dealing with customers who are going to have to trust me with the functionality of their ability to operate. Whether or not I can actually fix their problem is going to come second to my initial presence. Meaning it is human nature to make assumptions.

N o where is there any law preventing a customer from going elsewhere. So my thoughts or question was really directed towards the idea of coming out or not so as to keep my boss aware of potential circumstances before we encounter them. Mind you, someone else is losing their job in order for me to move forward. I know I have the skill and ability, and I know that both of those attributes exceeds pretty much every other employee we have. So the question is: come out, or not?

Congratulations on the promotion.    Seeing you are dealing with medical people they are more likely to be accepting than some other areas, so that is a plus.  That was my experience with the people I worked with.
