Second Attack on Trans Woman: Community On Alert
August 2, 2011

There has been another shooting involving a trans woman on Dix Street NE, very close to the location where Lashai Mclean was recently murdered. Thankfully, this time, no one was hurt. However, police believe that the incidents may be related. In both cases, men approached the women at night and asked for change, and then began opening fire. We are posting the full police report below the cut. You can read media reports at Metro Weekly.

Please be careful, and look out for each other. Avoid walking alone and be extra vigilant, especially in the areas of Northeast between Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue, as well as just across the border into Prince Georges County. We will share more information as it becomes available. For now, please stay safe!

Anyone with a gun can shoot back...
Our biograhies are our own and we need to accept our own diversity without being ashamed that we're somehow not trans enough.

Yes, but they can't take several of them that are hiding somewhere. :3 I was thinking of Law & Order lol.

No idea at all why people in the world do these things. We hurt no one, only being ourselves. It's sad really for everyone.

Becuase they're bullies.  If they weren't they wouldn't hate us, or rather so openly hate us.  Its not that we're living a life they wish they could or some other psychobabble.  The simple fact is they feel powerless in their own lives and by victimizing someone they percieve to be weaker then they are, they get some measure of power back.

Seeing that all of the suspects are under 20, it is probably a gang thing.  They should all be sent to Gitmo.  No ifs, ands, or buts.

We can't send people there just becuase we don't like them and its an urban legend that gangs are (randomly) violent against non-gang members.

If they are in a gang, they are part of a criminal element.  And while it is a urban myth about killing randomly, like most criminal elements do have people they target.

Just saying after trial, then Gitmo.  They are not afraid of just plain prison.

The only people they "target" are other gang members that violate the rules of the gang, including killing random people BTW.  Gang members have enough problems with law enforcement, they're not going to go out of their way to attract even more problems.

No one commits a crime thinking they're going to get caught.  If they did, they wouldn't do it in the first place - we might as well send them to the moon if that's the case, its as abstract as anywhere.

The District has made great strides to be a safer place, but it is still pretty dangerous, still I find myself there at night more often then is probably safe. At least there are more cops out near the clubs now, still I don't travel alone out there. It is sortof silly, that the capital of this country has such high murder rates.

DC is responsible for killing a lot of people everyday, that some of it comes home to roost... well.

Tekla, I have lived in probably too many places here in the states since High School. Washington D C however has to rank as the dirtiest , nastiest place I ever lived in . I used to think Camden New Jersey was bad , then I moved into N W Dee- Cee............. ellen

It's horrible that trans people get attacked so often, and sadly it's mostly MTFs!

And bull->-bleeped-<- gangs only target other gangs, there are gangs specifically meant to target groups of people such as gays and transgendered people. I have been targeted multiple times by kids in Sacramento because they think I'm trans. Only reason I know this is the same group of kids have hurt multiple trans friends in that area.

Well yeah , I'm not a mtf yet but I will transition soon ! I have been saving money and thinking about it but firts of all.. I know I would have to deal with people like these.. But I'm not scared I will fight with evrything for my freedom. Hey anyways if you see them around call the cops you will do a favor to the community. ;)

this is one of the many reasons i just hate people.

Yeah, but that's like hating music because of Justin Bieber.  Sure some of it is crap, but then there is Beethoven.  And as anyone who's been following the news is aware calling the cops in DC might just make it worse.  Best choice is to be smart.
