As of yesterday, my name is legally Sylvester Maxwell Vogel.  I haven't gotten a new ID yet, but I have a letter from my counselor to have my gender marker changed to M when I do.
It was all pretty easy.  Two weeks ago I got the name change kit, filed my hearing request and posted my notice.  When I went to court yesterday, the judge asked if I had a criminal record or if anyone in the courtroom would object to me changing my name (there were other people there with their own things they needed signed.)  When I told him no, he signed the paper and sent me on my way.  The whole thing only took a few minutes, though it did set me back $170 or so.  He called me Mr. Vogel too... I love the way that sounds.
So anyway, if you haven't gotten your name change yet, don't stress about it too much.  It's not that hard to do, it just takes money.
