Have you noticed that when people ask other people, "How are you?", the person answering almost always answers a "fine" or equivalent, regardless of how they ARE ?

So yeah, don't tell me that. Tell me how you really are.

Thanks :D

I'm nervous, anxious, excited. I'm coming off college medical leave in a week, and my life's going to be pretty hectic for the next three. I'm moving into my first apartment on the first of the month, and I need to pack, badly. This will be my first time living both away from home and off-campus.

I'm not sure I can make it.

I am restless and want to go home or shopping or something, but then that's my usual state when at work.

I'm taking off for Stanford U the North American Taiko Conference on Thursday.  Excited about that and a little nervous.  Looking forward to picking up a pair of oodaiko bachi and a bag I custom ordered in purple, silver and green (somewhat like the "official" genderqueer pride flag, but different because I don't officially consider myself genderqueer and purple is awesome), and of course the workshops and concerts.  I like flying but hate airports and regular class airplane seats though, and with the craziness lately with BART I'm apprehensive about that part of the trip.

Regretting breakfast from the convenience store, but starting to wonder what lunch will be.

A little chilly because it's nice outside but coworkers are air conditioning junkies.  It's 68F in our office and I'm in a t-shirt, Thai fisherman's pants, and sandals.  Drinking coffee to keep warm.

Oh, and I used to answer this question with "still alive" when asked by a former coworker I didn't really like.

Nauseous - 50% due to big bang on head yesterday, 50% due to eating too many toffees just now. Both my own fault. Dammit.

I don't blame you in the slightest for the toffees. Toffees rock.

By the way, Julian, speaking as an admirer of elegant skulls: you have a beautiful head.

Whenever people phone me on my mobile (cell for the transatlantic) and the first thing they ask is "Where are you?" I always reply "Fine thanks, how are you?" Causes no end of embarrassment 8).

Aw, thank you. I must say, though, it's a mite less attractive from the front. I've a bit of a cone shape going on. :P

I have the opposite problem - from the side, I look somewhat like a certain crystal skull seen toted by Indiana Jones.

Also a little sick - too many days cooped up but nothing I really want to go out for.
That and a pot of tea goes too bitter with one person, it needs to be shared - so it doesn't steep for too long. I have that bitter tea aftertaste.

Now, this self imposed loneliness is supposed to be focussing my mind on finally (FINALLY) finishing me novel by September - having missed my previous May deadline - and although I am writing well and regular, I feel so very heavy with the routine of just doing the one thing that I do not feel much satisfaction.

However, I plan to have a recuperating jaunt round London tomorrow and I am travelling to see some old friends at the end of the week, so will be perkier then.

Oh - and I think you have a lovely profile also.

Gah, I need to change my avatar. I don't know how to deal with compliments. Makes me feel all awkward. Sorry for being pretty.  :P Or something.

I hope you feel better, Pica. And I'd love to share a pot of tea with you.

That's why I chose "beautiful" - because it's not gender-specific :). Open your umbrella and let the praise in ;D.

Pica Pica

Yeah, and I went for 'lovely' - which is not only non-gender specific, but pretty non-committal  :D

You folks are great  :) though I wouldn't mind also being pretty once in a while. :P

Padma

I'm all for committing myself in print ;D. Of course you're pretty, Julian, but in this case that's just a subset of beautiful, and damning with faint praise, in my opinion :). but if you're more comfortable with less hyperbole, then: meh, you look okay :).
