Can someone help me? I want to grow my hair long and pretty and I'm not sure where to begin. Do I need to get it cut gradually over time or in a certain style in order for it to grow the right direction/way? Currently my hair is a bit retarded and grows quicker at the back than the rest of my hair, so often my hair looks out of proportion -shrug-.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of the best way from personal experience? Like any tips?

Much love <3

That is normal, just let it grow for a few months then get the ends trimmed (only about an 1inch) every so often till you reach the desired length.  :-*

yeah... just keep it looking nice. Keep it trimmed. I grew my hair down to the middle of my back once. It was a real chore to take care of it. I have a LOT of hair. I'm not bragging.... I just have a lot of untamed hair and with it really long, I was spending a half hour a day just keeping it manageable.

I'm not gonna touch mine until it grows out :P I take vitamins (biotin and multivitamins) and fish oil (helps hair)...and shampoo / condition (and try not to damage anything while wet)... but other than that, gotta just let it grow.

A little longer and I'll just set it back in a ponytail and won't have to worry about it :)

it's not growing longer at the back its that you have hair on the lower quadrent of your head thus hair there seems longer.

I've had long hair most of my life, and as far as I know, there is no secret to it.  Takes me about 7 months of growing from about 2inches to reach my shoulders(between 14-18in). I shampoo/condition my hair 3 times a week, and regular wash the rest of the days, and it always looks nice and full. For me, at least, shampooing every day makes it overly bushy and unmanageable, but like I said, its different for everyone.

For me I just let grow I had the back trimd just after my profile picture was put up. Now the front is almost cought up with the back. I wash it two times a day. Mainly because of working to keep it clean and tangle free.

While ball-capping it with a ponytail CAN be done, the reality is that HEALTHY hair generally needs to be trimmed from time to time, no matter what the hair care regimen might be.

I have a thick head of hair and it occasionally needs to be thinned in addition to dealing with the ends so that it doesn't look to raggedy...even something akin to what was worn by Shane's character in The L Word takes some stylists help to be worn properly.  There is a difference between neat ragged and just gross ragged...

I recommend biotin. It's an inexpensive supplement, you buy it at just about any drugstore, near the vitamins. It should help your hair grow quickly.

it took mine a year and a half to get it where it is today.

Hair grows at .5 inches a month (average). my best advice to you if you grow it out:

1. Make sure long hair fits your face shape. Ive seen a lot of girls wanting long hair cuz its feminine but it just doesnt look good on their face.
2. Make sure you get the edges trimmed often so split ends dont kill it
3. Style it. You dont want to end up looking like a back up singer to Aerosmith or Guns and Roses

Does Biotin increase beard thickness or growth?  ???

I think that with a combination of laser/electrolysis and HRT that biotin shouldn't affect your beard very much. For me personally, it hasn't affected it much.

Start out by not cutting it. May sound silly, but...

This is the third time I've grown mine out, and it's down to my waist.

If you find a wonderful and knowledgeable stylist, you can basically leave all of this in the hands of the stylist, which is what I do, ha. My rudimentary understanding is that you want to do a trim once in a while to keep it healthy and remove split-ends.

Find a good salon and let them show you the ways. Don't go to those chain chop-shops.  ;)

Yeah

Make sure you go to a good salon...and cutting the ends intermittently is KEY. Otherwise, your hair will get all frizzy and splited.....which will make any form of shaping for long hair very difficult to achieve.

Also, you totally don't have to spend an arm and a leg to go to a good salon.

The lady I used to go to (before I started seeing one of my close friends who also happens to be a professional stylist--I totally lucked out on that, she gives me discounts) charged only $26 for a haircut (not including tips). She was really, really good.

I know there's all of those ridiculous Toni & Guy type places where super-amazing-popular-cool people go to get a cut (  ::) ), but you don't need to spend $60 to have excellent hair. Seriously.

yea my stylist has well a hectic ego but he sure knows hair and i only pay 20Usd but long hair is 30 USd :) and you know what when i did try the way over price place they didn't even know how to thin hair ... :) so don't break your bank on a franchise salon

Also, I've found that the straightening iron is likely the most amazing invention heretofore invented by modern science.  ;D

You can use it to make your hair look longer than it already is, especially if you have curly or (like me) wavy hair. Furthermore, it gives it a silky, airy, feminine appearance, especially if you use good conditioner already and put it a quick spritz of quality hairspray after. If you are worried that your hair looks too masculine, this can be a godsend, and a quick remedy for dysphoria. :)

Of course, learn to use it properly so you don't damage anything.

if your hair is damaged, cut it off. No matter how much you dont want to cut it off it is the best thing to do for damaged hair. When your new hair grows it will be healhty and beautiful, if you cut your hair you will notice it growing a bit easier and quicker.  It's almost impossible to try and speed up your hair growth because everyone has a different genetic make up and a lot of the time this is what determines the speed and lenght of growth, but in the meantime take a supplement such as biotin- i have known some genetic women who take prenatal vitamins in order to grow healthier hair and nails but i dnt know how that might work on someone who is not a biological woman but it works like biotin. Deep condition your hair with things such as eggs, olive oil, and even beer, yes beer. These methods usually just require you to leave the products in your hair for up to an hour or even overnight depending on your preference. Deep Conditioning is important because it helps maintain your hair healthier meaning you will lose less hair due to breakage and split ends which are very important to cut off every couple of months the less spilt ends you have the less lenght you have to cut off. My biggest recomendation is olive oil- it conditions great and leaves your hair super shiny and soft. I am a experienced hair dresser and ill tell you one of the most important things for you to do is drink a lot of water and eat veggies- its probably the most important of all. I am not a scissor happy hair dresser but i recommend as well that you learn to cut your own split ends because most of the time women lose more hair than they need to or want and from personal experience ive met other hair dressers (mainly females) that chop off more hair than is needed or requested because they are jealous of other womens hair- mainly the ones with long beautiful hair. Its crazy but true
