The Seattle Police Department says it will investigate the attack of a transgender woman in Ballard, but has not confirmed her family's claim that the assault was a hate crime.

Tiva, whose age has not been released, suffered a serious head injury when she was reportedly struck in the head by a baseball bat on Aug. 16. Her family told neighbors that the female assailant had teased their daughter about how she dressed saying, "I don't want to see you around the skate bowl anymore."
