Hey guys I'm going to meet with my school counselor to pick out classes tomorrow. I want to come out to her and get everything changed hopefully. I just don't know what I'm supposed to say? Do I just walk in and be like hi I'm trans can you help me?? I'm really nervous obviously :( any help would be great.

Liam

Just try to break the ice slowly, I know it can be really awkward, but it can help a lot and save you from future awkwardness. You can probably get her to email your teachers about your situation (name, pronouns), so you don't have to do all that crap when school starts. I'm going to be doing that exact same thing so good luck on whatever you decide to do!

Hey! I had this problem last week, sort of. I came out to all my teachers last year, so this year when going to the counselor she already had a gist of who I actually was. Now, as a suggestion, I just say try to stay calm. I know personally when nervous I get kinda shaky, so staying calm is a big thing. Just be casual, once you sit down, just tell her you'd like to have your teachers call you by your preferred name, and use male pronouns, after that I think she'd just get the hint. And as Liam said, make sure you email your teachers, and also tell your friends to call you that, change your Facebook/Myspace/Friendster, whatever social network you use, to your preferred name and what not, after that, everybody will get the hint, and then you've got the whole school going by your preferred name and male pronouns. This is all just from my personal experience at a school stuck between a cornfield and a cow farm though so I don't know if this will all work for you, but I sure hope that everything goes well for you!

Thanks guys. The meeting is in an hour and omg I'm so scared right now haha. My school is in a new city where I don't know anybody so I'll just have to introduce myself eventually, which sucks lol. Hopefully everything goes well! I'll let you guys know what happens :) and thanks for the advice!
