Kia Ora,

::) Yet another hypothetical question folks, perhaps to chew on over the weekend ;D

::) Now suppose some wealthy, industrious trans-people got together and set up a trans-city...That was exclusively  trans-run, example Police force, hospitals doctor's clinics, schools, colleges, shops, religious places of worship/spiritual groups, in other words, everywhere was trans-friendly... Where trans-friendly cisgender people could also live there if they so choose[but they would be the minority]...

Things to think about...[To get you started]

Would this kind of isolation[from main stream cis-society] be healthy ?
Would living in such a place defeat the whole purpose of transitioning [to be seen and treated as "normal"]?

::) What are the benefits of such a trans-friendly haven...

In a word...NO!

I didn't go through everything to be isolationist in my living environment.  I melded into everyday society, so why would I want to give that up?

Kia Ora,

::) One of the  positives of such a place....

::) It's a fact some transitioners sadly will no doubt remain trans-identifiable even after transition and because of this become the target of discrimination and ridicule...

So for the sake of ones mental well being, there would be some advantage to living in a more accepting environment...

One also needs to bear in mind the only difference to a cisgender environment would be the fact locals were not born the gender/sex they now identify with...

To paraphrase General Phil Sheridan (who said this about Texas):

If I owned hell and that place I'd live in the former and rent out the later.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

No I would not.  Homogeneity is very dull to me, and a lot of other reasons...

Uh... trans is a fragment of my identity not the entirety. Hell, I have more in common with other editors than other trans folk. No way.

I don't know about living there (I like the city I'm in now) but it sure would be nice to have it nearby to visit from time to time, just because it's somewhere you can go when you just want to feel safe.

Sounds like a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there..

I'd like to have trans folks about that I could hang out with, I get very lonely... But a Trans City? I'm not so sure... I'm not a separatist and I believe in freedom and equality

I'm afraid it would become too much like a religious group where some More Trans Than Thou Entity would be telling everyone what to think and how to live... There would be a speaker system through out the city constantly saying:

"All Hail To The Ultra Trans For They Are Above You And You Must Kiss Ass At All Times Or Be Shunned!!!"

And everyone would be required to wear some kind of trans emblem

*Sorry, scaring myself*
The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

Nooooooo!

Maybe i just like the 'struggle', the challenge, even if it comes with being alone and also lonely at times. it still is all real.

Trans-city... they tried ->-bleeped-<-e like that and moved all followers to some place in South America not so long ago. Then they all killed themselves when their version of heaven did come about.

The whole thing would have a Nazi feeling about it for me.

:-),
and definitely NO!

Actually while it would be temping, but they did something similar here in the States.  It was on the west coast in the 1940's.  Japanese Americans were herded in to camps.

Having a city that was Trans, would only moves us out of sight, out of mind.  The funds would eventually round up everyone in the city and then make it a prison.

So for me, NO.  I must prefer being able to move about of my own free will.

Kia Ora,

::) It's interesting how some members have a desire to move to a more "trans-friendly" town or city... yet wouldn't want to live in a place that is made up of 'mostly" trans-people-Like the fictional place in this thread...

::) In this case don't you mean "Too much of a good/safe thing can be boring/unexciting !"  ;)

Even if someone paid me 4 million dollars, a free house, constant lovemaking with Bill Compton from HBO's "TrueBlood", I still would not live there.

Have u seen a trans support group?? lol...imagine being immersed in it 24/7. Ive been to Southern Comfort Conference and they almost drove me bonkers with the various hooplah stuff people were doing to make themselves the better girl....god knows, having an entire city of that? Dear Merciful God and His Virgin Mother in Heaven....

Besides, I do not label myself as trans...Im a girl so living there would strip away my identity of who I am versus what a medical textbook says I am.

Lol.  I've never been to a trans gathering of any kind.  I guess the support groups do help people somehow, but I don't get it really.  Whenever I feel like connecting with the community, Susan's does the trick just fine for me.

PS I'm Team Eric all the way :P

Kia Ora Annah,

::) Think about it - '4 million dollars' a house [the sex part would be of no interest to me personally] but just think you could rent the house out, travel for years on end, or start up a business with some of the money which enables you to do a lot of travelling... Technically speaking, you would still be 'living' there ::) Ah the possibilities are endless... ;) ;D
