Hello All,
I'm hoping someone may know of a post op support group in or around the Wisconsin area that may be able to help me.
A very dear friend of mine transitioned a couple of months ago in Thailand and having returned home (to the US) is having a few post op problems regarding her urethra that is causing a great concern in her overall recovery and growth into the woman she was meant to be. As we can all appreciate, friendship and support is paramount in these situations
I'm looking to see if there is a group she can meet, to be her physical and emotional support. I can only do my best from Oz, as much as I'd love to be by her side right now, I feel a support group would make the journey just sooooooo much easier. god forbid when I go. I'll be handcuffing you all to me - yes even through OR (LOL)
Thank you all in advance. I do really appreciate your effort, compassion and love. Be safe, well and happy
Lotsa luv
Catherine

In Madison there is support groups at Outreach for the TG Community.

Though, I rarely go, to many crazy people!!!  I have meet a few people that are great, but I don't need the drama of the crap that happens in my life.

Honestly, she would be better off seeing a great therapist in my opinion.  I highly recommend Dr Sue Gill in Madison.

If she's having a problem related to the surgery then would be better to seek a surgeon... However, if her surgery was less than 6 months I'm not sure a surgeon would do anything there.

Did she contacted her surgeon in Thailand to know exactly what was the problem? Although a peer support group might help her to find some peace of mind, she maybe would get more benefits with a surgical intervention

Hi Jamie,
Thank you so much for your recommendation of the Outreach in Madison and Dr. Gill. I'll pass both onto her. I think the real problem is the isolation she is experiencing since returning home. All her support networks have dried up and she hasn't been able to work due to the urethra problems. Apparently that has been corrected now, it was the result of an additional or incorrectly placed stitch in the urethra that inhibited urination. So she has been sitting at home since late June with not much to do.
Anyhow, lets hope your suggestion works. Many thanks. Be safe, well and happy

Ouch, I know what it's like to have a restricted urethra (I'm looking forward to losing most of mine, which has dodgy narrow bits in it). I had a year of that discomfort, which can lead to strained bladder muscles which then hurt all the damn time. May she pee freely!

Hi missF,
Thank you so much for your help. She has had some surgical relief done locally that appears to have corrected the issue. Her surgeon, Dr. Burin from the PAI clinic in Thailand put the urination problem down to the swelling, before she left. I don't thinks she has spoken to him since.
I think a lot of the problem is her isolation. As soon as she can get back to work, the better she will feel. It just goes to show, how important it is to have a strong peer support group in these matter. I appreciate you help. Be safe, well and happy

No worries. I know how bad is to just stay at home (I have been like that whole september recovering from my srs). I think I am lucky having friends that came to visit quite often (a dinner is always a good excuse ;) ) and indeed made me feel much better. Few times I was outside I felt like an alien... Isolating oneself, specially if dealing with a post surgical complication is not good, definitely!!!! Friends in such moments are precious...
