How do you come up with a name?

It feels like I've seen every single damn name that exists and none of them fit. :(

And I've asked my parents what they would've named me, but they don't rememeber.

The masculine form of my birthname is one of my teacher's name, so that would be weird.

You will find it eventually.  It will pop out at you.

I couldn't take what name I would have had if I had been born in a male body because my brother was named that.

You could always take the masculine form of your birth name, or what your parents would have named you if you'd been born with the right parts, and post on a baby name board asking what names would sound good with that, as siblings, as one way to generate ideas.  Especially if you actually *have* that sibling - they're not going anywhere.

You may want to rule out anything so trendy that nobody was naming their children that back when you were born, and those that remind you of people you didn't like from your childhood before anything else when you hear the names.  If you always think of "Bratty Bradley" from kindergarten when someone introduces you to a Brad, it's probably a bad idea to give it to yourself.

there isnt really a masculine version of my name. so i was trying to think of a name so i thought i would name myself what i would have been named. i would have been Joseph as its part of a  family pattern. the names michael and joseph are always used as the names of the first and second sons they switch every generation. my brother wasnt named michael or joseph. as my father's father cheated on his mother. it all came out after i was born and before my brother was born. so i chose a name that suited me it was inspired by a tv show. so now my name is parker. also i wouldnt worry about the name overlap, parker is the same as this girl who goes to my schools last name. she was just "i like your choice of name."

Fine if she simply goes to your school; bad if she used to beat you up and steal your lunch money every day in grade 3, or the brother of an ex you had a really messy breakup with, is what I'm trying to say.  Or one you're hoping to get back together with.

I'm the type of girl whose had names planned out since I was like 5, I already know what I'm gonna name my kids. :P

Also I have several teachers who have the same birth name as me, it's not really a big deal.

I don't think it's weird if you wanted to change your name to a name that your teacher also has.

For a long time I couldn't think of a middle name for myself.  then my school hired a new teacher, and the second I saw her name (a gender neutral name), I KNEW that I wanted that name.  I just loved it.  and no other middle name was as satisfactory.  so I changed my name.
And later she asked me what I changed my middle name to, and I told her.  and she said, "Oh! That's my name too!"  And I was like, "really? cool."  lol.

I say use those random name generators and set the search list to 30 (so it generates 30 random names), write down ALL of the names you like/seem to fit you, then start doing eliminations until you come across that one name of your choice.  ;D

Like others have said, it will pop out at you and you'll just know. I was trying out names with a fellow FTM for a couple of months before I got my name changed (we would each ask the other to call us 'blah' for the week and see how it felt), and while a lot of the names I chose I really liked, it wasn't until I was reading a book that a name jumped out at me, and I kinda went 'That's it!'

When you find the right one it will click, until then don't stress too much, and go with what feels right, even if someone else has that name already. :)

I just use a short version of my birth name. Not 100% decided. That guy wont be your teacher forever and millions of people have the same name.

Have you been on babynamesworld.com?  If you search a name and hit the tab 'similar names,' it'll generate a big list of names along the same lines.  I find it very useful.

My name just kind of popped into my head...  since I was little I went with Lucas just for lack of anything better, no name seemed to fit right, and then one day I thought, 'my name is Logan.'  I haven't doubted it since.  It just took its own sweet time to come along.

I looked at babynamesworld.com and I checked out the names that were popular the year I was born. And I think I found one. :D So thank you for that! And, I don't like the male version of my birthname so that's the main reason I don't like it. But even if I did, it would be extremely awkward telling my teacher my new name.

-"I'm gonna go by a different name this semester."
-"Oh, okey. What name?"
-"Yours." :icon_twisted:

I also went by Lucas for a while. xD

Pick what ever name you like.  Even if someone else has it.  Its up to you.  I changed mine to Brandon and I was always afraid that other ftms would think I changed it to that because of the Boys don't cry movie but it had nothing to do with that at all.

Just keep looking you'll find it ^^
It took me months to find mine.
I posted pictures of myself online and asked for suggestions.
You could try that - I didn't find my name that way,
I found mine on a baby-names website.

You'll eventually find something you like, don't worry. Even if you have to go through a lot of names first, and then decide you don't like them, one will eventually stick. If it helps, you could pitch some ideas to friends and see what name they think suits you the best. It might help you to get a better idea of which name you would like.

Good luck!
