Moderating a forum like this is rather interesting!  It's like we all have something in common, but our experiences of this one thing are so vastly different that we form support groups within support groups within support groups depending on our specific needs.  Hence, our group-specific areas.

Now being a global moderator means just that: global.  We can see every section of the site so that we can respond to anything that may arise in any section of the site.  That sometimes results in me doing rather embarrassing things given how I check these forums.

I open up the link at the top of the page that says "Show unread posts since last visit" and then, inside of that, I click the button at the bottom right that says "All Unread Topics."  From there, I just start clicking on everything.  I don't read a lot of stuff in depth, mainly scanning each thread for general tone, brewing (or active) arguments, dosage information, and minors posting their ages.  What I don't look at as I'm clicking on my unread topics is the specific forum that the thread is posted in.  Some are obvious from the title--there's not much call for breast augmentation in the FTM community--but the majority of thread titles are more ambiguous.  On more than one occasion, I've started to reply to general topics that were posted in group-specific areas that weren't MTF, then caught myself before I posted my response.  Then I smack my forehead, abandon my response, and move on.  Indeed, I learned that lesson when I once DID post a response in an area I wouldn't have been in if I wasn't a global moderator.  I think I caught it and deleted it before anyone saw my folly, but it burned a bit of cautiousness into my brain.

Now, my method of quickly scanning posts means that sometimes I may be seen in those group-specific areas because I don't have my account set to hidden.  I'm not going to set my account to hidden either because my personal preference is to be visible.

I guess what I wanted to say is that if you see me somewhere it looks like I shouldn't be given that I'm MTF, I'm not snooping, I'm not trying to cause trouble, and I probably don't even know I'm in there. ;D  And given that I only link to threads related to MTF transition (makeup, shoes, voice, etc.) there's no chance that anything I see in those areas will ever get out.  I take my role as a moderator very seriously and want to be someone that everybody on the forum can trust.  I don't gossip, I don't vent about anything but my own life (probably do this too much these days), and I certainly don't play games with the trust placed in me by others.

Wow! There's an 'All Unread Topics' button! The amount of times I've had 8 or so pages of unread comments, made my way through the first four pages, then come back the next morning only to find that the system no longer considered the remaining four pages as 'recent' as it had already served them up to me the night before.

It sounds convoluted but I'm sure some of you will know what I mean.

The amount of threads I must have missed not realizing that there was an 'All Unread Topics'.

Zoe, you've made my day.
