Hey everyone,
I haven't been active lately (sorry). Life's been crazy the last few months.
I've still been serious about transitioning and now that my life has settled down (at least a bit more), I've gotten a lot more focused about it.
Anyway, I've been "lurking" around on YouTube for a while now. (I had no idea there were so many YouTube resources for FtM's, if it wasn't for this Forum I probably would've just discovered it recently). A LOT of the guys that have channels or on Collab channels have been a huge inspiration to me, and clearly a lot of other people.
I've found in the last few months I've been a lot more into activism for transsexuals, transgenders, genderqueer, etc folks, and even joined the LGBTGIA club/alliance at my college (unfortunately, have not really been active because the meetings are when I have class). I guess you can say I have a lot more pride for who I am and the community, and have grown to care a lot more.
After seeing how much YouTube's have helped so many people (as well as myself), I've been seriously considering starting my own. I'm pretty far out from transitioning (I just made an appt for Oct 11th to see if the counseling resources at my college can help me, I'm REALLY crossing my fingers here because I seriously doubt I can afford anything otherwise)- but so far I've noticed there aren't a lot of people who are currently Pre-transition on YouTube, from what I've seen most of the guys who keep their Channels current or are active are pretty far along in transitioning, or at least have been on T for a while. I like the idea of just becoming apart of that community and using it to document my journey.
BUT here are my 2 concerns:
1. I'm wondering if maybe there are "enough" FtM youtubes/channels out there- what do you think?
2. The publicity of it. Anyone and everyone will be able to see my personal life, and for the most part, that doesn't bother me, but it only really concerns me if I decide to be Stealth someday, and currently because I'm only "out" to a handful of people.
At the same time, I feel like being on YouTube can help keep me active in the community, both now and in the future, and possibly being an inspiration to others as so many have to me can out weigh some of those concerns.
I'd really like to hear some opinions from you guys, and if you have experience with this and a channel PLEASE share.
If you haven't discovered the awesome FtM community YouTube has yet, here are some channels I'm subscribed to, check them out! (a few of them are users here on Susan's as well)
