Unattaching?

I am sure this must have been asked many times but:

How do you disassociate yourself from a message thread?

I don't want to see 'new replies to your posts' with some items.

You're right, this has been asked a few times and as far as I've read the answer usually is that you can't. Sorry, maybe someone else will be able to give you a different answer.
