Earlier today I was busy doing something on the internet when I came across a picture of a kid. It said it was from a recently released movie, so I went and Wiki'd it.

Earlier this year in France there was a movie released called "Tomboy". It's about a 10 year oldgirl who moves to a new town and tells everyone she's a boy. While the title refers to tomboys the protagonist comes off more like a young transboy to me.

From what I know the movie comes out in November in the US and this week in the UK, though I'm unsure if it will be released in theaters or what. I hope so though, I want to see it; I haven't been to the movies in years but I'll drag my parents to see that one.

The film reminds me of Ma Vie En Rose... Which was also in French actually. Interesting. I've heard this movie is not as 'dark' per-se, the parents react differently.

I asked the local arthouse cinema if they were going to show it, and they'd never heard of it ::). It's coming out in the UK early next year on DVD with English subs, so I'll probably have to wait until then, as my French isn't solid enough :). It looks like a really interesting film.

It was at a film festival the other day right down the street from where I live, but I didn't have the money then. They played one called "Romeos" at the same festival that's also worth looking into.

I watched this movie today actually.

A few words of warning, it can be VERY triggering. So please, if you are at a time right now where it would not be a good idea to trigger dysphoria please don't watch this :(

A few good things to say though is that even though there is not much dialogue in this film, the children do a great job of showing their emotions. (and it's in french, but I have never minded subtitles)

Laure/Michael is amazing and even when they do not speak their face says a 1000 times more of what they are feeling or thinking. A lot of the things that happen will be very familiar to you and will likely make you sad, so take caution. I was not too happy with the ending but that is my opinion.

There is a scene where Laure/Michael's mom slaps their face...and I felt as if it were my own face being slapped. There are a lot of tense scenes in the movie but it is balanced out with some happy moments.
