Van Bramer Honors 13 Year-old transgender student Rocky Sanabria for overcoming bullying and other adversities. Van Bramer Honors 13 Year-old transgender student Rocky Sanabria for overcoming bullying and other adversities. On October 5, at the City Council Stated Meeting, Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer honored 13 year-old Rocky Sanabria, a transgender teen who lives in Woodside, and has shown immense bravery, wisdom and leadership at a young age.

Recently, Rocky, an eighth grader at I.S. 73 in Maspeth, reached out to Van Bramer to share his story.  Over the years, young Rocky has overcome much adversity, including bullying. However, through the support of a loving family and by staying true to himself, he has worked to foster a greater understanding of gender identity and gender expression throughout his community and school.
