OWS: Ashley Love Strikes Again

Over on n+1 there's a report out of Occupy Wall Street and the problems they've had with a group of drummers who've been irritating other protestors and city officials with the noise at all hours. Buried in a missive about the ongoing negotiations with the drummers is this blind item about a transgender woman (emphasis mine) who's bogging down the process so much that " the board's trust in the demonstrators to police themselves and keep their word may be broken beyond repair."

Unfortunately there is one individual who is NOT a drummer but who claims to speak for the drummers who has been a deeply disruptive force, attacking the drumming rep during the GA and derailing his proposal, and disrupting the community board meeting, as well as the OWS community relations meeting.

[...]

She also has a documented history online of defamatory, divisive and disruptive behavior within the LGBT (esp. transgender) communities. Her disruptions have made it hard to have constructive conversations and productive resolutions to conflicts in a variety of forums in the past several days.

Well, of course Bilerico knocks Love.  She's not afraid to differentiate between GLBT ->-bleeped-<-s and straight transsexuals...what's knew?

Meanwhile, the UK version, which is occupying St Pauls Cathedral, causing it to be closed, is getting a lot of flack when it was announced that most of the demonstraters were going home each evening. That most of the tents were empty.

They have also organised themseves rather well, with health and safety tents, food lines, security to ensure that only approved visitors can enter and people with loudspeakers, telling those demonstraters, who have turned up, where the most cameras are.

Well, jolly good show, I say. At least they're keeping the riff-raff out.

Or they just want her to stop disrupting negotiations by being loud and obnoxious and giving all transgender people (CD's and TS's included) a bad name?

Bilerico is well known for their oppressing post-operative straight women. I would not trust anything written there as a source other than it's stated purpose is advancing the cause of the gay movement. Particularly when the article is about a post-operative straight woman.

I'm don't think I can agree, Valerie.  Isn't Dr. Jillian Weiss a post op woman AND a major contributor to that site?  I think you are painting with an overbroad brush in your condemnation.

She does have some good credentials. She is gay, however, and not representative of straight women.

Straight binary identified women have little representation other than themselves and each other. Certainly not from the gay or greater trans movements. Its just the way it is.

This article is written by the founder and Editor in Chief of Bilerico, who is a gay man. In this article he made 3 separate denigrating attacks against Ashley Love a post-operative woman of transsexual history. This is not the type of representation (Bilerico) that the transsexual community needs nor should support.

The posting of a news item does not indicate the site's support of the opinions expressed within.  The news section is provided as a service to the transgender community.  It is not meant to provide a platform for the denigration of ANY part of the trans community.

This thread is now locked.
