The Passage

Hiya, welcome to the forum

I'm an Xbox & 360 PS3, I don't bother playing online games on the PS3 because the party chat is so good on xbox so my situation isn't an issue there.
I only use my headset when i'm in a party with my friends, I met them all on xbox & they are very understanding & supportive. We play Battlefield 3, Lost Planet 2, GTAIV & Left 4 Dead 2, for the most part we prefer co-op games, nothing beats working together against the game.

My avatar on Xbox is female & i've had a few text messages from strangers complimenting me on my driving/flying/shooting skills, what with me being a girl & all that, i've only ever replied by text & refused a friend request from one to avoid an awkward situation.

Thanks! :)

That is so cool that you're stickin' it to the man and continuing to do what you want to do, regardless if it might be considered contradictory to some. I don't but I know I can't really play the kinds of games that you play, not anymore. I just... suck, roflmao. So, I play RPGs where I have less of an opportunity to suck! :P

Also, is that Seven of Nine as your avatar? 8)

I got bored of WoW a while ago. I have pre-ordered Star Wars The Old Republic. I have played the beta a bit and can't wait for it to go live. I have not yet had the voip issue yet but I am sure there will come a point in time that I will cross that bridge.

Hi, again! How was it? I have heard some nasty things from people coming out of beta but I don't know if I can really credit those people since most of them seem to just go out of their way to put down the game. Then, they're still testing it. I'm thinking, "Sooooo... you say the game sucks, you don't like it, but you're still playing it?" Intristing. >.<

I played everquest and WoW from the beginning.
Still play WoW on some 3.3.5 some servers (Cata was the final straw for retail for me.)
Couldn't really get into Rift but was really hopefull
Couldn't get into LOTRO
too much of the PVE'er to bother with warhammer online or AOC

I have big hopes for TOR

Me too. I've always been more of a PVE'er myself but I like the heightened realism in the game of running into someone from the opposite faction and then defending myself. So, I usually play on RP-PVP servers. However, it does get tedious to constantly be harassed by moronic PVP elitists who think that PVP is somehow everything in an MMO and that if you're not doing PVP then you're not playing the game.  :-\

But, yes, I also have high hopes for the Old Republic. I have probably followed this game before it's launch the longest than any other. Basically, I was following it since before I even realized who I am! I have even pre-ordered the CE, so I'll be really, really sad if the Old Republic doesn't work very well. :'(

We should all start a Super Friends group in TOR. We could call it, "The Order of Changes". XP

I've been looking for a new MMO to play myself. I've felt this big gap in my life when I quit WoW about 3 years ago ... if TOR is any good I might get into it as well. :o

Well, since I highly doubt Bioware would have spies here that could somehow track my IP to my main SW:TOR account, I can say that I've been looking at leaks for quite a while now. From what I've seen, the Old Republic looks incredibly awesome. There are some recent changes in the latest build that I'm not altogether happy with but oh well! I'm still going to give the game a go.

I too feel like I have that gap. I can't really get into WoW very much these days, as the game is for the most part just too old now, but I miss that "feeling" of being in a digital world with all of these people. In a way, it's like a big masquerade party to me. Everyone is wearing a costume!! For some reason, it's fun looking at it like that. In any case, I'm hoping that TOR will fix that void for me. :)

So far from what I have seen of the beta I'm impressed. Mind you everyone wants it to be a WoW killer, but I think it will carve its own way just fine.
Bioware has me wanting to play all the classes, but the real dilemma is what class to play first.

That's good! Did you play the weekend beta? Or were you in a longer beta period before then?

You're right, though, that's true. From what I've seen and from what people have told me, the game is not a WoW killer. Nothing can kill WoW except WoW. That game is so ingrained in the minds of internet faring youngins that it won't be so easy to for a lot of people to part with the game. Those who have had a chance to play the game, however, and who aren't going out of their way to dis TOR, they go on to say that generally; if you like Bioware games, if you like Star Wars, and if you like MMOs, you'll probably like the Old Republic.

It's a small niche, narrowed like that, but numbers don't lie so far. A LOT of pre-orders -- the trick for Bioware is getting people to stay around. I'm hoping they do, because if so, I plan to fork out money to that game until it finally dies of old age.

Sucking at a game doesn't mean you shouldn't play it, I get slaughtered in FPS's online but I still play them.
I prefer co-op games because it removes the need for competition & people tend to get along better, that's why I love left 4 dead 2, lost planet 2 & COD world at war with their 4 player co-op.
I also enjoy messing around on GTAIV online, just me & a few mates annoying the police then running for our lives or all of us jumping out of a helicopter together to see if any of us land in the swimming pool we're hovering over (we normaly miss by a mile & go splat ::), pmsl.)

I'm quite good at flying & racing games but I don't play RPG's often as they take up too much of my life, the only RPG's i've gotten into in this console generation are the Mass Effect series & Fallout 3, I pretty much gave up on RPG's when FFVII swallowed up over 200 hours of my life & Fallout 3 consumed over 300 hours!!

When I came out about being trans some people assumed that i'd give up the male orientated gaming but i've pointed out to them that I know quite a few women who love gaming, people will always fall back on stereotypes when confronted with something new or unexpected, it's something we have to learn to accept & deal with.

Yes that is seven of nine as my avatar, i'm a huge sci-fi fan I love sci-fi from books, TV, films & games

My major change in gaming, since discovering myself, is motivation to play a game. That thing that gets me
interested is...female characters. I will only play a select few games that don't let me play a girl :P

Ohmagawd, me too. I've watched too much Star Trek... XD

No but it's true. Gaming is actually a gender neutral activity. In fact, most things are gender neutral. The common belief is that little girls only play with dolls whereas little boys only play with action figures. I know, and we know, for a fact, that this concept is rubbish. I have seen little girls who want to play with action figures because, seriously, who doesn't? They look totally awesome! I have also seen little boys play with dolls, and why not? Dolls, while not quite as awesome as action figures in my opinion, do have a place in every child's toy chest.

I remember when I was a little kid, I played with dolls to complete a family with my action figures. It was like a story and, when I couldn't get female action figures, I would use dolls to fill in as wives, daughters, mothers, grandmothers, of the superheroes. I also had those moments where I wanted a doll to take care of, as a baby. I've seen little boys do this too.

I am actually the same exact way. For a while I thought I was doing something really bad, you know, like propagating sexism. It was like this almost day and night 360 shift from almost exclusively playing male characters to almost exclusively playing female characters. After months, when I figured out that it was mostly happening in RPG games, I realized that it was just because I didn't feel comfortable, while in transition from male to female, to play male characters as a representation of ME in RPG games. I realized that after I came out, I only wanted to be myself in video games. So, why would I play a male then? The reason I almost only played male characters before was because I thought the models looked more powerful, compact, and attractive to me. I never really saw them as my own representation of who I am, though, so when I finally did want to represent myself in a video game things changed.

Now, I play my main characters as female - because they are almost like a twisted, alternative version of myself - but I feel comfortable playing alternative characters (who don't necessarily represent myself as me) of any gender or even any sexual orientation. I also have little problems playing games that aren't RPGs, where you're probably only going to play a central, male character. That character is not me, not even an alternate me, it's just an interactive character form an interactive story that I can sort of follow and guide his actions. Like a puppet master! XD

I was in a longer beta period and my wife is currently in the beta. Can't wait til launch.....I've been trying to get used to Battlefield 3 lately, but I don't have a whole lot of time with my classes/homework this semester.
