So, up till now... everyone has been super supportive of everything. They say all the right things, and I even have gained a few new girlfriends who seem to accept me as female-ish.

But, in the back of my mind I always just think what people say are nothing more than polite words. Always kinda thinking that my friends and family just see me as confused or crazy (or even worse).

Today though, I was chatting on facebook with a guy who is moving here in a month or two (coming into the same program I am in). He is married and has 2 young girls (3 and 6 years old). We haven't chatted too much, just now and then with just some random things. But, out of the blue, he starts saying that it is great I am here because I can babysit for them. At first I thought he was just joking, but after a bit he kept mentioning it more seriously.

I don't know, it was just really really moving that he accepted me so much that he would trust me with his kids (he knows I'm trans). I guess this was the first time that I really believed someone when they said they didn't have a problem (even if super super tiny) with me being trans.

Actions speak louder than words!  He is going to let you physically babysit his children because he trusts you and doesn't mind that you're trans.  Parents are normally super protective of their children and would not want someone they think is weird or abnormal to babysit.  Yay for feeling and being normal like justmeinoz said!  You'll probably be a really good babysitter   Will you tell the kids you're transitioning?  Will you introduce yourself as a girl?  That would be so nice

Humm, as for the actual babysitting... before hormones I would have rather died first... but actually I have been kind of warming up to the idea of having kids some day (grr hormones lol). I had always been kind of uncomfortable around kids... people watch single guys around kids... with all the stories of pervs now aday, a male can't really look at kids play or anything without people getting creeped out. But I guess if you look more girly, it is ok

I would just babysit them as I am. If they asked, I would just say I'm trans (a kind of mix). I'm pretty relaxed about things.

Well, hanging out and chatting and things is different... I still have questions about how they see me.

And yup he knew I was trans (I am pretty open about it). He thought I was female at first, I really couldn't pass up that chance to mess with him and see his reaction hahaha.

You were passing and you actually blew your cover? Maybe it's because I've never actually passed before, but I couldn't imagine blowing my cover to anyone by choice. (Now, I happen to think that my body would betray my cause anyway...)

Bwah, I don't want a cover. Out in public if someone "ma'ams" me I just ignore it ... but with friends or people that I want to know better, I want them to know and accept me.

I have a pretty good sense of humor about everything. I know it isn't exactly the most normal thing so I usually try to get people to relax with jokes. Once people realize I am comfortable with it, they get more comfortable too and it doesn't turn into the "elephant in the room".

Having "cover" or trying to be "stealth" would just mean I would constantly worry about how well I was passing or if I was making "mistakes". I don't think I could live that way I just want to be myself and be comfortable

Oh, and the reaction some people have is soooo funny. And when they ask questions (like about "the surgery") it is a good chance to have a laugh Like "Hahaha, uhh, nope, not really in a rush to chop anything off" (and then you get to look at them like they are crazy).

I must be doing something right after what has happened in the last week or so.

We had the local Pride Parade at the weekend, and I got read as a Lesbian by the marchers, acepted as such by those who knew me, and then read as straight despite my rainbow hat and bangle, by a girl giving out flyers for a new Lesbian's radio show. I had to call her back to get one!

Last night at dinner I was talking to a woman who eventually read me, but she did say it was only because she had a lot of trans friends when she lived in Kings Cross in Sydney. It took her a few minutes before the penny dropped, despite my voice and saying I had been invited by the organiser's partner, who she knows, and  who is in MtF transition.
