Sex-change substitute still teaching

After working as a substitute teacher for the K-6 Eagleswood Township district in Ocean County for nine years, McBeth retired. But McBeth's new appearance — bleached blond hair, lipstick and a sex change — was not exactly greeted with approval. Parents said McBeth's continued teaching at the school would confuse the children.

Despite opposition in February 2006, McBeth was re-hired in Eagleswood. She worked one day and decided to go elsewhere after getting no more calls to fill in for other teachers.

The Pinelands Regional School District in Little Egg Harbor Township had no problems bringing McBeth on as a substitute teacher. She was hired without any opposition and became a substitute teacher in that district.
