Even in death, may I be triumphant.

Well, yeah.  It's a society with extremely strict structures that we don't fit in.  Chances are a lot of us would kill ourselves trying to exist somewhere we don't belong (waitaminute...).

I was going to do a big run-down on Plato's Republic and Western religion from this, but I'd rather not go ranting on my own beliefs.  If you want to know where my mind went with all of this, please read Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy, as it pretty well wraps up my thoughts on the subject.

That would not be fun. No choices, no colors, no love...that was kind of the point they made in the book, though. Jonas decided to go away because he realized that even though there was danger and evil in the way the world used to be, the feelings and freedom made it better than life in his community.

I'm so glad other people have read the book, though! It's one of my favorites  :)
