Kia Ora,

::) I'm under the impression for the most part trans-people from certain ethnic backgrounds[including the ethnically ambivalent] have an easier time passing/blending in...For example Asian[including those from India] and African....When it comes to gender it would seem genders of both ethnic groups on the whole have a highly androgynous appearance-more so than say Europeans or those with a European background....

::) Here in Aotearoa [NZ] Polynesian people are also quite androgynous in appearance hence why I feel Polynesian trans-women blend in quite well......

BTW I'm ethnically ambivalent- Afro Caribbean father [Jamaican] Anglo-Saxon Mother [English], so this is not about stereotyping people in a negative way, I'm just stating an observation...

::) Do you think there's some truth in this ?

Or it could just be how a person from one ethnic background tends to see other ethnic groups, but those belonging to the particular ethnic groups[being observed] see a clear difference in their gender appearance...

I've heard others say, too, that those belonging to a closely-related ethnic group to yours are more likely to clock you.

But I personally haven't found it to be the case. As an (East) Asian, when I used to not pass too well, I wouldn't pass well in front of either white people or other Asians. When I began to pass well, I passed in front of both equally.

I am more inclined to believe that, at least, East Asian MtFs have an easier time passing than European-descent white people (it still takes a lot of work for an East Asian MtF to pass as female, but she is more likely to succeed). I don't know about the Polynesians or others though.

There's a TV series in Japan where they dress up high school boys into girls, and they also show how they originally looked like before the makeover. Most of them looked really girly even originally...
Here's one of the most popular (being one of the few in the series who actually also sounds like a girl)

Arabic/Persian men never clock me. Even though I am half.... I've had more of them try to get with me and not get "it" than most men.

I suppose white guys have been the main ones who have clocked me as I am part white...But that was when I started. But a lot of the men who say I am "passable", note my facial structure, attractiveness, hand size, petiteness, etc....I am the height of most girls around here, but most girls here are Latina or Filipino. Men generally think girls are small, defenseless creatures.

I mean honestly, I think  a lot of us get clocked...But few react and the people who tell us we pass are people who were attracted to use to begin with. Obiviously if a man wants to bone me or make out with me...He's not going to be thinkin "straight" lol

I'd rather not care, than live in a world of delusion.

Idk, as an American I definitely have a harder time clocking Asian mtf's, I'm half-white. My cousin seems good at it, but I think in Thailand you just assume every masculine-looking woman is transgender. (she thought the dancers in Rio were ladyboys, I was like wtf, even though it's a cartoon lolz)

I heard somewhere that east Asians are more likely to clock white transwomen, but that whites are less likely to clock east Asian transwomen. I wonder if this is true. I know in Thailand I got called a gathoey at least once, though that was right outside the Suporn Clinic so people probably expect to see MtFs there.

Gender dimorphism is less pronounced in the so called Mongolic race ethnic groups (e.g Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.), so XY-females and XX-males may be able to project their true gender easily.  For other ethnic group is more a case-by-case situation.

Lolz, Idk, I think you guys are comparing different asians to different white guys. Lots of white mtf's pass, and lot's of asian mtf's just don't. I know you're speaking on average, but I've seen way more asian men (mostly Thai) who look very masculine and would have a difficult time passing if they were ever to transition, compared to a twink who could pass easily.

As much as people on this board want to debate it. Being smaller and petite helps a person pass much better than larger women. Mixie and I are currently debating it on the "Do I pass thread?".

Look at Ongina from RuPaul's Drag Race...if most of those girls wanted to transition with hormones they could. Even most of my gay male friends are generally the same size as most women I know. I live in an area with a high ethnic population...Mexican, Filipino, etc. A persons bone structure helps them out a lot more, because women are generally thought of as "small and petite". Of course, being a woman and passing one is a million little things...

Kia Ora Mahsa,

::) For the Caucasians this does tend to be the case, however it's somewhat different for many[but not all] of the Poly and Micronesian  peoples whose bone structure for both men and women is not so "small and petite", they are more solid, thick set  people, this is partly due to the types of diet they have/had back in the islands...

Is funny how for a Caucasian all Asian or Africans look alike. I heard Asian said the same about Caucasians. I con only speak for my limited exposure to other Caucasians Females. IMO -leaving the attitude aside- facial hair, bossing, broadness of shoulders, hand size, Adam apple, and of course the voice.

I look pretty much like many dutch girls, thick bones, long legs, tall, little body and no facial hair, but ah my voice it gives away every time ! So I am going to go to Korea to have voice surgery.

Cheers Zenda

I never said that people look alike, just that some groups are on average more passable than others.

Kia Ora Dawkbua,

::) I think Jen was responding to my post regarding "Caucasians"...

I think Asian's in general are cute, both males and females. In my next life, I'm choosing to be Japanese because I've always loved Japan and its the only place in the world I've never been to that I would love to see. And if I dont get to be female in my next life, I'll have a better chance at passing  if I'm trans again :P
Having said that, I dont fit in to the usual caucassian male category in that, I'm 5'5, little to almost no adams apple, small hands and gender neutral voice. So, just by going off of what seems to be the norm for cauccasian MtF's,  I'm kind of unusual I suppose. But I have seen some very beautiful MtF's even just on here, who are not asian and that's great to see.
I do know that Phillipino's come in all sizes, but every one I have met are short. And there's been a big difference between the males and females too, not just in their appearance but their mannerisms and body language.
