The National Center for Lesbian Rights stepped in last week to assist with gender identity education for Largo's city commissioners after their hasty vote to terminate transgender city manager Steve Stanton on February 27.

"He's hanging in there. It's very emotionally draining and upsetting," Karen Doering, senior counsel for NCLR in Florida, said of Stanton. "He was very much caught by surprise by the commission's vote that gave in to that mob mentality that occurred at that commission meeting. Seeing the overall sentiment at that commission meeting is very heartening to him."
