Hi everyone. I'm writing a 15-20 page paper for my human rights class regarding transgender issues in the context of international human rights.

Here's my current (incomplete outline):

Introduction:
- Explain transgender terms
- Explain transgender law in a broad international context
- Set the stage ready for a case study between two countries

Body:
- Transgender rights in the United States
- Transgender rights in ? country

Conclusion
- Sum up everything
- Recommend policy

Do you guys know if you can help me choose a second country to describe in the context of transgender rights? It has to be a country that's not too different or similar to the United States. Ie. Uganda where gays are actively persecuted. I'm thinking a south east asian country would be good... but any other suggestions are highly appreciated as well.

Any idea on what else I should add?

Hi Kerri,

Sounds like a good paper. What about India as your second country. Bound to earn you extra points, perhaps a HD. The caste (Think that's the correct spelling) section of society can in some ways be quite complex, yet so highly organised and regimented and legislated to a degree, from what I understand.

For my 2 cents worth, With respects to explaining transgender terms, keep it simple, you may be preaching to the non converted, and you don't want to confuse them up front. Otherwise they may lose the rest of your paper.

Let us know how it goes, and if you need more help.

Be safe, well and happy.

I'd do Australia if I were you. Not too similar to and not too different from the states. Netherlands might be interesting too.

Felix, my boy. You've been hanging round that incorrigible woman Cindy, way too long. You need to move to a new neighbourhood.

Ah, yes. Totally going to do all of Australia. And I've been hooked on Cindy since she mentioned branding irons. ;D

I'm still mad about not getting my towels, though.

I would second Catherine's suggestion of India.
The caste system that they have there, and the position of hijra in Indian society is interesting.  If you write about the traditional function of hijra in society versus what has happened in recent years, you'll have plenty of material to work off.

And Felix, we Aussies aren't that easy :P

Hi Keri  :icon_wave:

You can also consider South Africa.
No discrimination against gay, lesbian, transgender, race or colour is allowed here.

Transgender persons can legally change names, get married etc. The same goes for gay and lesbian persons.

It will be an interesting exercise to do.
