LGBT vs GLBT?

One more post before I go to bed... I've noticed that in conversation, many people on here use GLBT, whereas the campus group and degree at my university use LGBT. Actually, they started using LGBTQ recently to be more inclusive (Hmm... this acronym could actually be very long... we may need more vowels other than A and I to make a word! TALGBIQ? No that's dumb... but I digress...)

Is this a region thing? or a generational thing? Just curious, what do you think?

But seriously, I think it's just convention (and there may be a feminist undertone of subverting the "men-first" mentality by placing lesbians first, though that might be reading a little too much into it).

When I first explained "GBLT" meaning to my wife, she said "giblets!"

So now that's our word for the whole...alternative...schlemiel.

"Hey, the giblets are having a meeting in Seattle! I'm gonna go!" etc.

Probably by radical feminists, then. Only those find Sexism where it is none.
I actually feel very ambivalent regarding this aspect of the letter combination and can never decide whether I should think it is fully "okay" or whether I should think that it is Sexist.
I mean, think about it; While I do agree that "Gay"(In the words modern usage) for a lot of people means "Gay Man", "Gay" nonetheless refers to anyone that are homosexual, so lesbians are already included in the list from the beginning.

It is also a bit weird that they- instead of just uniting all homosexuals regardless of gender by using a neutral term such as "Gay" or "Homosexual", felt it necessary to instead scip any Gender-neutral unifying word altogether, and put their own gender firstly, although they hadn't even been able to be on the list at all if it hadn't been foremostly for homosexual males protesting at Stonewall.

Ah well, I, at the same time, cannot say that I do not understand them wanting to point out that;"We are here too!".
And they can ofcourse do whatever they want, just think it's a bit funny, that's all.

Same for me JenJen, it just seems easier to say. Like the syllables make a circle... (Yes, I just spent the last few minutes repeating "LGBT" to myself...)

To me, the order really doesn't matter, though I've never been one to find hidden meanings in things like this. I'll continue putting the 'L' first I suppose, since it's what I'm used to, as long as I'm not stepping on any toes!

Wow, it's a hard choice for me between QUILTBAG and "Lesbigator" (phonetically anyway). I think the image in my mind of a lesbian alligator is the one that will win out Now, if you'll excuse me, it's lunchtime and I think I'll go grab a Gay BLT from Burger Queen

it may depend on personal experience with Gs and Ls as to which seems more superior etc.  then again GL slips off the tongue better than LG?

I've always been told its a regional thing.  I was introduced to QUILTBAG a few months ago, but I'm trying to get out of the habit of using letters altogether. It's my own fault, I decided to teach a class on alphabet soup terminology and I titled it "LGBTTTQQAAIIFOP...What?". Now I can't even use LGBTQA (my past default) without feeling I'm leaving people out. So I've been using gender and sexual minorities (GSM) of late. It takes a bit more to explain, but its more inclusive and shorter than other letter groups, avoids the potential offensiveness of queer (wich I believe is generational), and works for me. To each their own I suppose.

Now that I think about it age could be a factor. My professor for a diversity class used GLBT, while the local standard is LGBT(QA). I put QA in parenthesis because many people around here leave it off but I've been pushing for their inclusion since our campus group has a history of not getting along with their allies and pushing people to pick an identity.

Most groups that trip LGBT off their tongue/keyboard admit on close questioning over coffee that they really mean LG anyway .

I was at a singing camp in the summer that had a GLOW group - stood for Gay, Lesbian... or Whatever... and we attracted a very interesting diverse group of people that way, including several who definitely identified as Whatever.

Same as you, JenJen2011. I don't want to have knob on my tongue. 
(But I mainly use LMBT, just cause of native language: Hungarian uses term "Meleg" - literally means "warm"- for Gay. )
