Girl Scouts' admitting of boy draws backlash

COVINGTON, La. (BP) -- Girl Scouts USA's recent revelation that its local chapters sometimes induct boys who try to live as girls, considered transgendered, is already having repercussions in Louisiana, where three troops at a Christian school have disbanded in disappointment.

Susan Bryant-Snure of Lacombe, La., is one of three troop leaders at Northlake Christian School who resigned and are dismantling their troops because the policy is in conflict with that of the host school. Her three daughters, ages 10, 6 and 4, are among 25 girls who had been active scouts there.

Instead, Northlake is investigating aligning with American Heritage Girls, a group organized in 1995 in protest to the Girl Scouts' decision to allow scouts to replace the word "God" in scout teachings with a word representing a personal image of God, such as a "higher being," "Allah" or "Buddha."

i'm not surprised at all. Conservative religious people are more than happy to forsake the happiness of their children to prove a religious point.

And I am certainly not surprised that it was in Louisiana.

I was wondering why that news article disregarded proper pronoun use and then saw that BP = Baptist Press.

"Churches in general shouldn't cater to the confusion," Johnston said. "It's part of biblical truth that God made us male and female in His image."

Focus on the Family, Johnston said, works to proclaim the truth in love.

"Most little boys who express this transgender confusion will grow out of it," he said, adding that boys should be encouraged to embrace their masculinity. "I don't know that you can get around hurting their feelings. As a parent, I'm aware there are times I say no to my kids and they're hurt by it on a daily basis."

Girl Scout Troops in Trans Panic Mode?

After a Denver Girl Scout troop decided to allow a 7-year-old transgender child into the troop — reiterating that Girl Scouting was about empowerment and inclusion — a representative from Colorado's statewide organization, Rachelle Trujillo, told  The Christian Post  that "if parents brought a child to a meeting, and the child is recognized in the community as their daughter, then the Girl Scouts accept that. We don't require proof of gender."

She went on to emphasize that inclusion policies should be handled, as they always have been, at a regional level.

[...]

Ever the beacon of reason, Jeff Johnston of Focus on the Family told the  Baptist Press that allowing transgender children to join the Girl Scouts "will lead to growing societal confusion about gender. Strong cultural campaigns are already under way to teach that gender doesn't matter and to promote more than two genders." He went on to say that mothers in Colorado have contacted Focus on the Family to express concern about their kids "attending camping trips with boys pretending to be girls."

Girl Scouts' Inclusion Of Bobby Montoya, 7-Year-Old Transgender Child, Prompts Troops To Disband

A Colorado-based Girl Scouts troop's decision to admit a 7-year-old transgender child this fall has prompted three leaders to resign and dissolve their troops. As The Christian Post is reporting, all three of the troop leaders were affiliated with the Northlake Christian School in Covington, Louisiana.

Susan Bryant-Snure, one of the leaders who resigned, told The Baptist Press that the Girl Scouts' action is "extremely confusing" and an "almost dangerous situation" for children. "This goes against what we [Northlake Christian School] believe," said Bryant-Snure, who has three daughters among the 25 girls who had been active scouts there.

The controversy began when Felisha Archuleta protested against a Denver troop's decision to not initially allow her transgender daughter, Bobby Montoya, to join the group. "I believe he was born in the wrong body," Archuleta, who also confessed to having difficulty switching from male to female pronouns when discussing her child, told ABC. "But the Girl Scout leader told us he can't join because he has 'boy parts.'... But no one would know he's a boy unless they pulled his pants down."
