How Age Matters in Today's Trans World

Children raised this way will have their own problems, but they will be much different than the challenges facing transsexuals who transition after puberty. The only identity they've ever had is female. Because they have always walked and talked and related to the world as girls, they are fully adapted women. And because they don't go through puberty as males, they don't grow as big as they otherwise might.

It's different for older transwomen

Transwomen who transition in adulthood have decades of learned behavior to overcome and a great deal of new behaviors to learn, as well as masculine bone structure and musculature. For many, the transition period is an awkward, difficult time, often punctuated with loss of friends and family, painful acceptance issues in public places, and damaged careers.
