Who's your daddy?: The one question that stops Napier Road children from going to schoolAnother problem is that the mothers can't wake up in time to send their children off to school. "The women work until around 4:00 a.m. They go to sleep around 5:00 a.m., and wake up at 3:00 p.m. or so," one of the outreach workers said. "In order to send their children to school, they would have to wake up at 7:30 a.m. They can't do that. If they don't get enough rest, the business, and hence the family's income, suffers."
The problem starts from the time the child is born. The mother has to go back to work the very same night (if the child is born in the day), or the next night at max, another outreach worker told Daily Times. The child is given into the care of an ayah - usually a transsexual. The mother barely gets to see the child for an hour or so each day, so the caretaker brings the child up according to his or her own rules.
