I just come from one of those encounters with a cell-phone technician who was thinking he could 'pull the wool over my eyes' - 'cause I'm a dumb (technically speaking) female.

It can get quite frustrating as the general bias is that females just have NO IDEA about anything technical --- at least in my part of the world (SA).
If starting to engage the dudes, they get quite pissy because you try and tell them something that is for a man to know! - not a woman! Eish!!!!

Am still all fired up... grrr :-)

PS: If it was your boy-friend/husband he'd just have to get you laid to restore the peace, he he.

OK, since you asked.
I have an older (quite expensive at the time 2007 – 8...) Nokia slide-cell, 'full metal jacket' and in top condition.
It started to 'bomb out' getting snowy screen, then go black, and then reboot more and more often, when in the middle of writing SMS texts, then also starting to say 'memory not ready' when going to Names, or 'CIM card failed to register' when it just had worked moments before. The when going to settings and setting expiry date for a profile it gets hung up completley, needing to remove battery, or when 'Locked' and the calendar alarm went off - touching any button (on the locked phone) would require a reboot, also constantly switching it self off even with a full battery, etc. etc.
I in the meantime I also installed a new CIM card, as directed, which made no difference to the problems mentioned.

These things just seemed to come up - and then some... after the version was in need of SW upgrade (acc to technician's info) from V 3.8 to 6.3 in this case, as it turned out.
The upgrade, if anything, made matters only worse, though ALWAYS intermittent, now even shorter between 'break downs'.
The last time (3rd time) I took it back again, they stripped EVERYTHING off the cell, each and every directory content gone, and re-loaded the old version V 3.8
Then I got handed back the 'naked' phone having paid for that 'required update' (... to make it more virus resistant) --- back with the old SW version and empty as a pocket, tabula rasa.

Well the fight was about, that this was not what I had paid my money for --- he hoed and hawed, so now it's back with them, once again, for the 4th time.

In between returns I was told that his upgrading, in one jump, from 3.8 to 6.3 was a problem, it had to be done in proper steps of previous upgrades... well.

In any case, there was no upgrade! All stripped off, and that was it... not single wall paper, NOTHING.
So I told them to upgrade or give me back my cell AND the money...

Sorry, that's the short and the long of it... so...?

PS: BTW, I told him (in the process) that I had worked in IT for years and he better come clear with me, 'cause I know that he did not tell me the full truth, and was just hoping I accept his bla, bla.

If it's possible can you find out the model number of your cell phone device.. Then I can find out more information! Basically from my understanding the phone needs to be flashed to a earlier version of firmware. But a model number would be extremely helpful! Usually located under the battery, if it's removable. But it does sound like he was pulling your chain, and yes Gaga is ->-bleeped-<-ing sexy as hell. <3 Kind of surprised you knew it was her actually. :3

OK, it's a Nokia 6500 Slide, if more detail is required we must wait till Monday as it's back with the technician.

Been pulling may chain, ha... it's what I thought, but lets see first not to do an injustice. Girly gets all fired up when fed with BS by "clever" techies.

Lady Gaga, gosh babe, she's a favourite so I better would sass her, and that pose - right on... :-)

Thanks again,
Axélle

Hmm alright well let me know what's happens, by the way do you have insurance on the phone?

I'm surprised you aren't on a Gaga fan site. Yes I would eat her alive, if I were to ever meet her. >:-)

I have the exact same phone and I've done some repair work on them in our local Nokia factory. I have V09.60 installed on it. Mine also does the thing you describe, but very rarely and it never caused any real problems. Software updates didn't seem to matter and I tried all updates that came out in the last 3 and a half years. These updates never solved any of my problems with that phone sadly, only ruined the compatibility with some Java programs and they even stripped the media player of an option which were present in the earlier versions. I love this phone but quite a few has some serious hardware and software issues.

Edit: The sales staff tends to think a little too highly of themselves, most of the time they don't even have all the necessary equipment to diagnose the problems, all they can do is update the software and hope for the best and change some components.

Most cell phone places don't pay the people who work there enough (plus the ->-bleeped-<- is changing every day) to really know much more about any phone they sell beyond turning it on.  The only exception is if they actually own that phone themselves.  Otherwise, like any other ring in Dante's hell, abandon hope all ye who enter here.  You'll do better with net-boards on that particular phone.  Really if you're looking for people who really don't care at all, look no further than your local phone store.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

No, I just get ignored like I dont know anything/or said anything at all. It brings me great pleasure to say "Told you so" When their plans fail. For instance...

Me: " I know where all the snow went. It's all up in Alaska. They've had about 18-20 feet of it fall with more coming.

Scott: It has been pretty nice here.

Ricky: Yea, it's not too bad out. I might have to get my summer clothes out again at this rate.

Me: I rode in without a jacket. This weather is really screwy. It's January and as warm as spring.

Scott: Yea, I heard someplace got about 15 feet of snow in like, a week.

Ricky: I saw that, I think it was Alaska that got it.

Scott: yea you're right!

Me *face palm* I just told you that not even a minute ago!

Grrrr....
