Breast Augmentation Massage

I recently had a breast augmentation done with Dr. Z.  He recommends to massage twice a day for 10 minutes for the first month.  That sounds perfectly reasonable.  However he then stated that after that date I would need to do a daily 10 minute breast massage.  Is this commonly done with all augmentations or is Dr. Z being extra cautions?

If I need to do 10 minutes massages for the rest of my life, then I will, but is there not some more common tapering schedule (sort of like dilation eventually falls to week or even monthly).

I think he wants to make sure you do it at least once a week, after the initial 2x a day ordeal?

Also, massage IS a good idea to prevent a higher level of encapsulation (3 or 4), it's also good to prevent breast cancer as I understand - how about a lover to take care of it, he he.

But seriously, I know a few augmented folks and NOT ONE OF THEM was even told to massage.

I kind of figured it was more of a just do it every so often.

As far as having help.  I've had offers, but she knows my nose and upper lip are still healing so we're trying to hold off.

It did at first, but has slacked off.  Keep in mind until recently I was on Vicodin and even now full dose Tylenol, but that is because I had mine as part of a FFS too.  And my jaw/chin/neck hurt so bad that I don't notice much else.

It was so worth it, and if everyone had said yes do it every day I'd try to find time, but weekly/monthly is much easier to do.

Dr. Z. told me the same thing.  Implying that it was supposed to be a daily ritual for the rest of my life.

I'm not quite sure what the purpose was, because after a few months, all tissues are pretty well set in place following the placement of the implants.  Perhaps it is, as stated above, to prevent encapsulations.

Anyway, I did it daily for about 3 months, then tapered off.

Now a days, about the only massage the girls get is when I have to get them into my bra in the morning.

A tale of two stories:

Julie and I both had cohesive gel implants.  Brassard performed both surgeries.

Julie followed doctor's orders and did the massages.  At one point she developed a seroma (build up of fluid) that actually made a squeaking sound when she did the massages.  I don't know if there's any correlation. 

I did the massaging once and then quit.  For me, BA was the easiest recovery I had and the procedure I've been most satisfied with.  (FFS, BA & GRS)

That's not to say don't follow your doctor's advice but there are different schools of thought about this.  I had read some surgeons say to just leave things alone.  I chose that method because massaging them caused me discomfort.  I decided to listen to my body and stopped massaging.

I then looked up surgeons who were cutting edge in BA procedures and took their advice.  What you do is up to you.  Just remember, everyone is different.
