I have a great news. I am leaving Europe in just a few hours, flying to Thailand. I will have consultations with most of the Thai SRS doctors next week. I hope one of them is the one who will do my SRS. So exited :)

Thank you ananicole,

I am back. I am totally impressed by all of the doctors I saw in Thailand. The transgender medicine is the best on earth in Thailand. The postoperative care is fantastic. Most of the doctors perform the non inversion technique, with superior results compared to the techniques of the US and the European doctors. At first I had a cultural shock but now I just love Thailand. I will have my surgery in April. I can't wait to go back there.

Congrats and that's great news. My doc told me to go to Thailand when I decide to do this. Several of his patients have been and all got great results with no drama.

Stephe,

I am totally impressed by the Thai doctors. Not that they are good for SRS but for FFS as well. Who ever you choose from the reputable Thai doctors you can not make a mistake.

Hello Swan,
I'm curious to understand the difference between the above and penile, scrotal inversion if you will kindly explain some.

I had my SRS with Dr. Sanguan in Phuket and he has some variation to the US/European protocol also. But I never heard of "non-inversion technique" before.

Thanks,
Axélle

Hi Axelle- Michelle,

Non inversion means that the penile skin is used to form the labia minora and some of the sidewalls of the neovagina, but mostly the neovagina is formed from a scrotal full thickness graft. That way a better aesthetics is obtained and greater depth. Dr Sanguan uses inversion technique (I just checked his website) but he always gives great aesthetics. The non inversion technique is a modification of Dr Suporn technique.

His website doesn't even mention it. He has not used the inversion technique for many years already!

Obviously most of the Thai doctors use the non inversion technique. I didn't see Dr Sanguan. The only reason for that was his 3 stages procedure. Otherwise I think he is a fantastic doctor.

Hi Ana,

I will have my surgery done by Dr. Chettawut. I can not find a reason why would he be better then the others, I think they are all great doctors, it is just that I like him as a person and he gives me a lot of confidence. We just clicked and I think he is the right doctor for me.

that's nice, he has a good reputation.
did u get to see suporn?

Yes,
He was my first choice before going to Thailand. I think he is very good. He just has greater rate then 100% of revisions after the initial surgery.

Sorry, English is not my native language, and I don't really understand what you are saying here. Are you saying that Suporn has more revisions than other surgeons? And is that because his initial surgery causes more problems, or just because he is a perfectionist and wants to get it right?

BTW, I find it really interesting what you did, traveling to Thailand for consultations only, especially because it apparently made you change your mind, so it sounds like it's worth the additional costs. Did you also get to speak with other patients over there?

Suporn is the one who invented the non- inversion technique. How can he cause problems. Because of one reason or another most of his patients get one to several revisions. Perhaps he is a perfectionist. I choose my doctor based on intuition. I just said he is right for me, as we are all different. I didn't want to underestimate any other doctor.
And my trip to Thailand didn't make me change my mind, it made me make up my mind

Well swan, according to what you explain, I had non-inversion done also on 20. Sept 2011 at PIH with Dr. Sanguan.
The following protocol has been used by Dr. Sanguan for quite some time (~ 3years?) and undergone some minor mods and improvements.

As for the 3 operations...

1. The BIG ONE, he used penile skin for labial minora and as you say for the vaginal entrance as far as it will go down into vj channel. This op is about 7 - 8 hours (longest 9hrs so far). I was in op-room 10am and came to 7:30pm the evening. Hardly any pain to mention.

2. ... "op" is hardly that. It is ~ 20min, yet using general anaesthetic. It is to remove 3 - 4 day old vaginal packing and replace it.
He is then checking if during creating vaginal opening into pelvic area, no blood vessels have had any damage, will cauterise if needed and you are done till op 3.
This is a quickie, followed by no pain what so ever.

3. "Wall papering" --- this is when he inserts and 'connects' all saved scrotal skin after ALL! hair follicles have been removed painstakingly. I could watch that process some whist waiting to be put under...
This op is about 2 hour in duration.
The only one op I came to with strong pain – I guess, due to some nurse having fumbled with replacing my catheter. The pain was in the clit/labia minora/urethra area not at all in vj channel which had been lined.

I hope this will help to create some more insight and perspective.

Hug,
Axélle

Hi Axelle,

What I really like about Dr Sanguan is the amount of time he spends in the operating room for each patient, and the fact that you remain in hospital for 14 days under 24 hours medical supervision. Doctors start making mistakes when they get overconfident and start rushing the surgeries. After so many years of SRS experience Dr Sanguan still takes his time to make sure everything is fine. I absolutly love the way he sutures (no visible scars). His aesthetics is always first class. He is a real artist.
Personally I am freaking out of surgeries. I already have nightmares about my own SRS.  If I was to undergo 3 surgeries in 14 days I will probably not be able to sleep one month ahead :)

Thank you so much for the description of the entire process. How happy are you with the results?

HUGS ******

Hi Babz,

That is a great news. I also have a lot of confidence in him. Have a nice flight darling (it is a long one) and a VERY successful surgery. I'm with you.

Let us know how it goes

Hi Babz,

How can a travel insurance cover SRS? I think they only cover emergency treatments in the country where you travel? Is it an insurance for SRS or for possible complications from SRS? I don't think traveling insurance would cover medical treatment of a preexisting condition or cosmetic surgeries. Even though I wish it would:)
