Hmmm i have never gotten to wear makeup.
But here's what i know / heard
For starters you bought a brown colour so obviously thats not going to be as striking as the look i think you're going for.
Second you really need to upply a fair amount for good effect Which i imagen can be hard with some eyeliners since they tent to dry. So i'd go with gel based on what i learned but you should really try everything.
I have heard really good things about Urban Decays 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils and Wet 'n' Wild Mega Eyes Creme Liner depending on how much you want to spend.
Again i've never worn anything so take my advice with a grain of salt. But i hope it was helpful. : )
