Check out how your height compares with the height of 'average' genetic females.  I am 30cm taller than the 'average' woman.   :-\

http://www.calculatorslive.com/Average-Height-For-Women-Calculator.aspx

The average height for white males is said to be 5'9" which according to this calculator is 12.cm taller than the 'average' genetic woman.

Compared to the average for where and when?

People have been getting taller for like, ever.

Need time and place for it to be a valid comparison

I am much taller than the average American genetic female and somewhat taller than the average American male.  I was 6' 0" at one point, but have lost an inch with age (probably compression of the spinal discs and curvature of the spine).

If I can lose the extra weight I am carrying, I'd like to think I would be statuesque  ;)

That's true.  I remember visiting my parents in London one time, and going to the British Museum in Kensington.  The medieval suits of armor amazed me.  Al those knights were really short.

Nice! I'm 5' 6.5" so one thing that helps - some, just some, he he.

Also I do get close to statuesque when in 5" heels, mind you :-) And I love! heeels.

I remember going around the Tower of London and being amazed how short the armour was, and how big a certain section of it was >:-) >:-)

We're in the same boat!  :D My height is a problem, but, I'm not going to let it ruin my life. I'm gonna look awesome when this is all said and done. I will it, and it will be so - anything less is simply unacceptable.

From the website:

QuoteYour height is above the average height for White/European females. The average height for White/European women is 163.7 centimeters and your height is 194.31 centimeters which is 30.61 centimeters more than the average height.

They sure had some big fish
I remember one of the suits from I think Henry V, who had a very impressive codpiece, it was a weapon to behold, I'm not sure if he had to prove the fit though >:-) >:-)

Wonder why they are called codpiece?

I know we're not ever supposed to use Wikipedia to quote facts, but Wiki DOES have some data on height by country -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height.

Your height is above the average height for White American females. The average height for White American women is 164.1 centimeters and your height is 166.37 centimeters which is 2.27 centimeters more than the average height.

I wonder if average height is what we should be looking and comparing up to. It is after all a really arbitrary measure, and one should remember that it takes into account both the shortest and the tallest people. Shouldn't it be better if we look at a range of heigths that fits a certain percentage of the population.
The average is  whithin the norms but not "within the norms",and very few people would be actually of the exact average.
It would be interesting to look at the most frequent height, though - it would be much more informative.
For example with my 176cm (don't know how much that is in feet) I am above the average female height of my country, but It is not above the normal height for women here.

nerd alert:
If I remember correctly from my research, the average height in the middle ages was nearly the same as now(few cm's shorter). Then at later times (mostly 18-19th century) it was generally lower.
Those suits of armour in many museums look short, because of the way they are assembled by the curators, which barely reflects the way the armour would sit on a living person.
The codpieces were used as a symbol. In some parts of Europe women did the same thing with their butts.

well I already know the average Male height in the UK is 5'9 and the average female height to be 5'3

I'm 5'7 partway between the two. Whitch fits with what I see when I go outside. ditto for my shoe size. size 8 rather small for a male but slightly large for a female.
dose bring up the intresting point that before I transtioned I was rather short for a male... Would that mean that had I been born a natal female I'd have been really fricking short? like 5'1 5'2 short my little sisters 5'4 it would be embarrassing to be that short... although I guess it would go with my rather small breast size.

Interesting thought pepples,

being of same ~ height 5' 6.5" and 7 1/2 shoe size, plus large for ladies gloves.

Now my mother was about 5' 1" ... not exactly what I would have liked to replicate either :-)

I am 6'2'' (188cm). And my feet are 12 size M. That's 45-46 in EU.

JulieC.

I'm 5'5" and growing up as a short male it always sucked but now I love my height.

I'm 5'10", the height of the average American man. It's a nice height, except when it comes to buying women's pants. :P I don't know where my height comes from, as I believe I only have one blood relative who's taller than me.

I'm 5'10" and overall, its not a bad height, I'm taller than a lot, but I can reach stuff they can't and even the guy at the auto parts place admired that, lol.

Pants can be tough though as it seems that 8 long sells the quickest in jeans at most stores or either they just don't make enough of them.

Exactly! Whenever I manage to find pants in 6 or 8 long, I feel obligated to snatch them up because I don't know when I'll be able to find them again. :D same with 30x34 in men's. they don't make enough long skinny pants.
