A trans man is believed to have become the UK's first 'male mother' to give birth despite having already had a sex change operation.

According to the Sunday Times, the man in his thirties gave birth to a child last year via a caesarean section.

Joanna Darrell, of the Beaumont Society, which helps men who wish to or have changed gender told the newspaper that the unnamed father got in touch to enquire for help having a child after having undergone gender reassignment surgery.

When a baby is born, what we should all be concerned with is the health of the baby, the health of the mother. The reality is, as a society, we are often concerned with other issues, such as the living circumstances, the attitude of the parents, the prospects for the child's future.

It really shouldn't matter if the mother has had some SRS, or even if the mother has had none, but prefers, simply, to be recognised as male. But it does. Sadly. (Apologies for the use of mother, the topic is specific to mothers. No judgement or otherwise is implied about the man who has created this child. Simply, that in creating a child, he is a mother. In raising the child, he may well be a father).

I don't know who is responsible for publicising this, but frankly I am at a complete loss as to why.

I do not believe, for one second, that any of us should ever be in any way, ashamed, shamed, or fearful about who we are and how we feel. But none of us can be unaware of the deep suspicission that many fearful types will continue to regard transgender, at least, for the time being.

But involve children in any issue and the rules change. Humans, all of us, are instinctly protective of our children.

If there were a single reason for this, then I would applaud it. I applaud people who have the courage to present themselves in the real gender, whatever their age. I know we all do.

But I can not see anything to be gained from this sort of thing. At all.

Hopefully, there will come a time when matters such as these are no more important than a gay couple having a baby, or a mixed race couple. But we are not there yet, by a long way.

I hope others will voice their opinions on this issue. I can't, at this time, think of any positives.

Campaigners question ethics of Britain's first 'male mother'
Campaigners have criticised a British woman who underwent a sex change to become a man then given birth to a son.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9078558/Campaigners-question-ethics-of-Britains-first-male-mother.html

The 'male mother', who is believed to be in his 30s, was able to carry a child after taking female hormones to reverse the effects of his female-to-male sex change treatment.

The Daily Telegraph understands that the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, is from the West Midlands and is in a long-term relationship. It is not clear whether his partner is male or female.

The revelation has led medical ethics experts to call for a full inquiry into the issues surrounding transgender births, saying the interests of the child should not be risked to "fulfil the rights of an adult".
