Those can't slim down you bones.  Some guys have no flesh just large bones there.

In that case, "wide-legged" pants should help too. Boot-cut and regular cut jeans are a plus, while baggy jeans just tend to accentuate hips more (and they just look weird, they've been out of style for more than a couple of years now).

Avoid slim-cut and skinny, just in general. I think the guys who can pull it off are doing so in spite of, not because of.

most pants, I have found, do not help me at all in that aspect, boot/regular or otherwise. it doesn't help that i'm on a tight budget and still loosing weight either :/ but oh well. If they only issue is my hippage...then it looks like i'm heading in the right direction :D (maybe i should wear a full length kilt  ;D )

Hey guys,

Hoping you can help me out here. I can't take T and am not transitioning but I would really rather look androgynous male than androgynous female. I get people who don't know me calling me female 90% of the time, so basically my question is what could I do to land more on the male side? I know it's hard to tell all about someone just from pictures but I figured any input at this point might be helpful to me figuring this stuff out. The majority of my clothes are male. I'm short (5'3") so can't really do anything about that (although I'm definitely not small in body structure ... 130lbs and I am trying to work out more to tone what I've got. I would say just judging by other males I've seen that are my height that I'm pretty close in comparison to overall build). I've been told by friends that my mannerisms, the way I act, the way I walk and the way I talk is definitely more male, although my voice sounds like a younger teenage dude. I'm also well into my 30's at this point. I do look totally different imo with "short" hair (faked it in the one photo) but I personally like my hair longer and think I look better with it that way.

I think I posted this before, so if I did forgive me, but here's a full body shot.

Thanks

Insideontheoutside:
I honestly think, the clothing is part of the problem. It doesn't look age appropriate I guess. I don't know if it's just me but I think it might be part of the problem. Far be it from me to change your style. But I think if you would wear more "mature" male clothing, it would probably work better. Like get some jeans, a simple formal shirt, and some formal shoes, and I think then you'd be passing better. But again, that's just me. I just see the clothes you are wearing as stuff someone in high school/college would wear.

sorry inside, its a no pass for me. unfortunately you look female and your age in all four face shots. last one isn't clear enough to tell. sorry bro.

No pass, sorry. It's just the lack of facial hair combined with a teenage-like clothing style and the fact that your skin shows signs of aging. I think a tidy haircut with some jeans and dress shirts would help. Not too formal, but more mature attire.

@inside, to me the third picture looked more masculine then the others....maybe it was the angle? hmm..not sure. anyways, i know you mentioned briefly something about your height and i wanted to chime in my two cents about shoe lifts. you can buy them at a variety of websites, loveboat being one of them, and it will give you a couple of extra inches to your height. you can only wear them with like trainers/dress shoes/boots but hey, i thought i would just mention it incase that might help a little.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input and helping me try to figure this out. I just did a little experiment and gave myself some stubble (photoshop). This is the only thing that's changed on the photos. What I'm trying to gauge is whether or not it's a facial structure thing or just subtle things that say male rather than female. If addition of just the stubble pushes me into male it may be something I can work on (I already have stubble but only on the edges of my chin and under my chin - if I were able to up my T levels slightly it would probably grow in more).

Also, on the clothing front. I never wear shorts really and I have a lot of other clothes that I wear on a regular basis. I posted that last pic more of just an overall "here's my full body" kind of shot, but I totally get that clothes can make a difference.

Here's a more recent pic (I was wearing black jeans and black boots with this ensemble).

Here's a couple older pics (sorry they're so small) of some more normal clothes I would wear on an everyday basis.

Thanks

@insideontheoutside hmm...im not sure about the photoshoping...BUT i do think the other clothing did make a big difference. also, is your hair darker in the bottom pictures?! you pass better for some reason in those two to me...hmm, maybe i'm just crazy :P (but they do say darker hair tends to give a more masculine tone...)

Inside: I'm gonna go against the grain and say the shorter hair looks by far more feminine to me. The husband agrees with your choice of longer hair. You look like of women in their 30s and 40s I know with your hair pulled back in the faux-short style. I wouldn't cut it, personally. The only short style I could see working for you would be a buzz cut, but I don't think that would look right on you. You look pretty spot on to me as an andro guy in the bottom right photo in casual wear. The layering to me helps. I think colors like blues and greens work pretty good for you in general from what I have seen in your posts. Also, I think the slightly darker hair could help. Maybe a shade or two darker brown? Black, given your complexion would wash you out. That might help you get the reading you want.

Edit: I remembered who it was you remind me of! Judd Nelson, the badass from the Breakfast Club. I'd inbed a picture, but I am feeling overly lazy and I can't remember my password to photobucket. But, that is who you remind me of pretty damn closely. Especially with your hair like it is.

Thanks guys.

JayKyle ... I guess I can try to focus more on clothes (and now that it's not going to be warm much longer I can do the clothes layering thing again which will probably help too). You and Ayden both mentioned darker hair seems to help so I may try that again too. I never really thought of hair color as a "passing" thing before, so it's definitely helpful to get outside input on this stuff!

Also, Ayden, I agree with you on the shorter hair. Actually, in the older clothing photos I posted that's about as short as I'd go with my hair ever and that's still longer than the average man hairdo and more choppy.

It's funny that I do get people saying I look like different famous guys (and Jared, I've gotten people saying I look like Gerard in different pics before too!) and I've never really had anyone say I look like any famous girls (then again I personally think I make a "prettier" dude than I do a chick any day).

And Jared, on your pic, since it's at a distance and the way you're dressed I'd say you were a younger male (maybe 13-14).

Someone once told me I look like Moria Kelly.  I so don't.

Jared, you pass in that picture! I think you are trying to hypnotise me with your shirt :P I think your hair looks pretty cool and you look about 13-15 years old.

It is just 4 months until my birthday and then all the waiting will be (almost) FINALLY over!! :D I will legally be allowed to be me and I cant wait! My friends want to take me out to a club for my birthday and it is going to be very awkward if people keep asking whether Im old enough to even be here :-X  How old do you think I look now? I am also only 5'6.

14-15
But definite pass.

harlee: You look just like my little brother, Jacob! So, I'm biased, I think you look fine. About 14-15 like Aeris said. So, you look young but you pass.
  •

Harlee: don't say you are low, I'm only 5'1 so I'm much lower than you (if it helps). And you do pass really well.

Guys. I'm afraid to post a picture. I'm scared I will not pass at all, because I rarely pass IRL. Should I just try to post a picture and let you judge?

I was going to say you look like a 13 or 14 year old boy, but definitely look like a boy. Also, 5'6 isn't THAT short. You're only a little shorter than I am.

Jared

Thanks harlee  ;D  yeah that was exactly the aim  :P  I think we look about the same age now. I'm also a bit scared about going to clubs because of the same thing you said. But have a great party without awkward moments!  ;D
