Does anyone else have food they thought was disgusting as a child but as they grew up, they liked them much more? I remember many a time being in a fancy restaurant, going through a sauce with my fork picking out mushrooms! Now im quite partial to them :/

Its the same with olives and brussel sprouts - used to avoid them if possible but now i'll happily eat them! These days theres no food I won't at least try (although in Vietnam one time, I once had some raw snake that had spent the past months/years(?) inside a bottle of vodka, which was ->-bleeped-<-ing rancid and DEFINETLY won't be tried again haha!).

Does anyone else remember any childhood (or otherwise) foods they'd avoid but aren't fussed-by now?

Tomatoes and blue cheese used to be evil, and now they're some of my favorite foods.
Strangely enough, one of my friends can't have tomato paste - so whenever he's at a restaurant and orders a pizza, he gets them to make it up without the tomato base layer, so its basically bread and cheese!

I would do the same with some mushrooms but cooked onions in food I hated to eat especially in Chinese food.  I would pick them all out but now I want cooked onions in Chinese and other foods.

On the flip side the foods I used to love as a child but hate now includes fried porkchop, homemade fried chicken, and mayonnaise.

mayo.... i always liked mayonnaise, but whenever my ex wanted to be a dick he'd come out with 'how d'you fancy a hot steaming bowl of mayonnaise?'

nomnom.  he grossed himself out.

i never really had a problem with any food, i enjoyed everything i tried as a kid, apart from baked beans, which i still hate and is really the only food i can't stand.  i love food (he says, on a super restrictive diet...), it's one of life's pleasures, and i love trying new and weird stuff.  i'll try anything once.  i mean anything.  i want to try the various insect delicacies of the world.  the strangest thing i've eaten so far is a scorpion lolly, but the more unusual foods i've managed to try include escargot, pigeon and alligator, which i don't think are that adventurous, comparatively, but it's a start.

I hated cauliflower and brussel sprouts, but now I love them. It actually looks like last years brussel sprouts in my garden are going to survive this mild winter. Hugs, Devlyn

Haha wtf?! That sounds absoultely disgusting!

RE: new foods. Theres a Mongolian restaurant in Glasgow that basically has a selection of meats, vegetables and then a myriad of different sauces/pastes that you combine and give to a chef, who will cook it on a hotplate infront of you. That restaurant serves a load of unusual meats, including shark, yak, goat, alligator (although if they are what they say they are remains a mystery!), so its great for trying new things.

Oh and i've had pigeon before and found it quite .. gamey (if thats a word lol). Such a different taste from chicken!

yeah, gamey is a good word for it.  i'd love to try goat and yak.  i've had shark before but i'm kinda uncomfortable eating it knowing the amount of sharks killed per year for the fin industry.  not quite the same, but it puts me on edge.

No - i totally agree, it makes me uncomfortable too. Some animals shouldn't even be considered for food, because of their rarity. Mountain gorillas are killed for bushmeat all the time, and of course sharks have their fins cut off and then -horrifically- thrown back in the ocean in by some asian fishermen.

I love onions, especially pickled ones! Although my dad can't stand them or garlic. If it wasn't for his fondness for exotic holidays i'd suspect he was a vampire :P

Oh, im on HRT but it better not affect my tolerance to spices - i luv them! hehe!

Lots, but the first thing to pop in my head was pickles!!! That's actually McDonalds's fault, I've always hated their pickles, but because of them I avoided all pickles.

I hated onions, tomatoes, and green peppers but now I eat them all the time. The one thing I still don't like are mushrooms. YUCK!

Asparagus spears.

As a child I detested asparagus.  Especially those that were soggy and limp.
However, I had some a few years ago at a wedding reception that had been grilled with a little olive oil and served with a aioli sauce. Wonderful.

Besides, asparagus helps me test my kidney function.

Macaroni and cheese! (Which is what I'm eating now.) :)

This is the only thing I'd only eat that has cheese in it.

Throw in some "Li'l Smokie" sausages.
Or smoke ground beef and chili seasoning.

Yum.

or you can try the Southern route and use some BBQ sauce and cut up hot dogs with the Cheesy Mac... old myth that it helps with the libido! LOL

anyways back on topic... Mushrooms were another childhood nono, unless they were minced. I can stand them now, but only if cooked a certain way.
