A Long Ramble About The Appreciation For Transition and Bottom Surgery

You have been warned lol.

So one my way to school I was pondering about the appreciation of transition and bottom surgery.  I know there many guys who are perfectly fine or okay with they they have down there (gosh I so envy those guys), but for some other guys they may not find bottom surgery to their liking yet.  There are tons of great results out there but in my opinion, compared to MtF bottom surgery we have a long way to go. 

I have to admit that at times this does make me sad but at the same time I have to look at it in another perspective.  What if I was born in the U.S. in 1906, 1888, or heck 100 B.C. while trying to cope with all these feelings when nothing was available?  I imagine it would be 10 times worse than now considering that the last thing I will probably need to focus on had I been born then.  It makes me want to bring possible ftms of those times back to life and show them how things have changed compared to back then and gather their thoughts.

Even now there are hormone blocks which I'm very jealous of those who are on them.  I wish I had that option growing up.  Even if I did my parents would have never of approved which I think would of crippled me even more hearing them say no but at least I will probably have the blessing of being able to correct nature's mistakes through hormones and surgery.

Anyways back to the topic of bottom surgery, upon initially hearing the options I wrote my experience off as "hell no", then as time went by I rewired my brain from a "hell no" to "hmmmm".  I may not have the blessing of being young enough to be on hormone blockers but at 20 years of age, I feel that I may be able to experience new techniques of bottom surgery and what not before I get too old.  Then again maybe nothing will come along during my life time but I seriously doubt that within the next 10 years that absoultely NOTHING will change about bottom surgery.  Maybe a metoidioplasty can become larger.  Maybe a phalloplasty will be able to obtain more sexual sensation won't need an assisted erection.  Maybe penis transplants with zero donor rejection could occur.  I doubt it but who knows?  Ideas for bottom surgery are always floating around and the stronger we make ourselves known, the more prevalent the ideas will be put to action.

I'm not saying that we should accept what we have and be happy with it.  I'm saying that I am very thankful we at least have something on the table for now even if it's not up to several guy's likings.  It's A LOT better that they had over 2,000 years ago which was nothing at least in my opinion.

I think bottom surgery for trans men is underrated. I've seen maybe 20 images of surgery for trans women and I'm not impressed by it. Maybe it's because surgery for women is hyped up so much and surgery for men is usually written off.

Too right you are, we are blessed to be able to have the resources at our fingertips, most of us anyway, as some are in countries or other situations where they have no resources.   Phallo and other bottom surgeries have definitely come a LONG way from their humble beginnings.  I'm not sure exactly who pioneered phallo but I know Dr. Harold Gillies carried out one of the very first ones on Michael Dillon in 1946.  He did a lot of work helping disfigured war veterans from the first and second world wars.

Nygeel: I also agree that bottom surgery for trans men is underrated, and also highly stigmatized, due to all the hate it gets, which frankly those types of disparaging comments should be kept quiet.

She served as a soldier in the Revolutionary War as Robert Shurtleff.

She later married and had children.  Bio woman, but definately a man and a soldier.

I have to admit that at times this does make me sad but at the same time I have to look at it in another perspective.  What if I was born in the U.S. in 1906, 1888, or heck 100 B.C. while trying to cope with all these feelings when nothing was available?  I imagine it would be 10 times worse than now considering that the last thing I will probably need to focus on had I been born then.  It makes me want to bring possible ftms of those times back to life and show them how things have changed compared to back then and gather their thoughts.

Someone did a TV show about Sampson in the 70s. I saw it when it came out. I don't think it was an Afterschool Special...it was more like Once upon a Classic, or something like that. Sunday morning fare, maybe.

I'm deeply grateful to have testosterone treatments, and top surgery saved my life. Without them, I would have had to "masquerade." Who knows if that would have worked. In the nineteenth century and earlier, though, clothes really made the man. The divide between men's and women's clothing did make it easier for "passing women"--god how I hate that term, but there's no good way to know how most of those people saw themselves.

I compare bottom surgery to robots;

I once saw a documentary about robots and what they where able to make, they showed alot of cool stuff with realistical looking robots, and said they could make them even more realistic but it would be no good, cause if people see a somehow realistic robot looking like a human they will get impressed, but if its Too realistic they will look blind to find details who make it prove its not a human and they will be disgust by it.

also they could make the mashines much better and more human likely, but they would be scared what would happent if robots became too much like humans.

the situation is sort of the same with bottom surgery, I do belive if people REALLY wanted to make better bottom surgery, then they could get a long way. But, as I see it people dont find it nessesarry/do not like the idea, of making "veginas into penis"

While there were some exceptions at the time I did not get the impression that she was FtM.  What I'm saying is that today in a lot of cases a person can transition because the resources are there as opposed to back then.  Imagine FtMs back hundreds and thousands of years ago yearning to somehow get a more masculine appearance, removing their breasts, or getting a penis.  Surely if the options were readily available back then many would probably go through the hurdles to achieve their desires.  I am glad to at least have some options on the table.

@Arch--You are correct that in the "olden days" a simple change of clothes could change someone's gender.

I am reading a fascinating book now which is a biography of Vita Sackville-West. She was an Edwardian-era author, famous gardener, etc., and one of the original gender-benders. She was technically married to a man, but being of the aristocracy, was free to maneuver and get around with her female lovers. The book describes how she turned into "Julian" whenever she wanted, simply by dressing as a man, and would take her girlfriend to a hotel as "man and wife."

Imagine it being so simple today.

At first, I deluded myself into thinking I could deal and accept what I had down there, but as I progress in my transition...I'm just disgusted by it. I hate it so much. Bottom surgery is far from perfect, but as with anything, your mileage may vary. I've seen some excellent meta results, and I'd rather have a small dick that functions pretty close to a cis dude's than nothing at all personally.

Maybe by the time I can afford it, something more advanced will be available, but who knows? I'm gonna try for it anyway, because I need to treat my dysphoria as best I can.

This is exactly how I feel.  I may not be endowed like a porn star but it will be better than what I have now.  I am also banking on more advance bottom surgery procedures in the future even if it's just a slight advancement.  That is the one positive thing about me being able not to afford it right now.  Regardless if there are any advancements or not, I will be getting it SOMETHING done.

Hell, I won't complain if they just come up with a way to bring more sensation into a phalloplasty or reduce the amount of skin needed from one of the donor sites, or if they find a way to create a sperm-producing implant for folks that would like to be able to have a kid using that method. Maybe it could be connected to the implants and add another function to either option.

'Course, I'm not a doctor, so I can't say for sure if these are good ideas or not. Just my thoughts on what I'd like to see in the future, you know?

Yeah man I understand how you feel.  One of the doctors in Belgrade are actually tinkering with phalloplasties in order to bring them to have 50 percent tactile sensation and he is even trying to increase that number.  I think there was another experiment going one where biological males who can't produce sperm can have this implant to make sperm.  One of the guys posted it a few months ago.  One thing though whoever finds out a way to give the size of a phalloplasty with the erotic sensation of a metoidioplasty will hit bank lol.
