I'm afraid you may be disappointed by the answers you will receive.  Different guys have different luck with different STPs.  What I've found from reading posts like these is that it took some shopping around and trying out of different STPs to find the right one.

As for me, I've only ever tried one STP, a homemade one (circle of plastic/plastic shield) and I find it easier to just sit, other guys in the toilet won't think anything about it, trust me.  Though I do want to try the Snee-Kee, that one looks promising.

Like Andy said, it really depends.  If you've never used an stp before, you'd probably be better off starting with something that has a larger, more rigid receptacle.  So the Snee-Kee, Shewee, pStyle, or Whiz Freedom would probably be your best bet.  A more flexible stp is the GoGirl.  The Travelmate is a rigid stp device with a medicine spoon-like receptacle.

If you prefer something homemade, the plastic disc like from a coffee-lid works pretty well from what I've heard.

If you want something attached to a packer, there are some options as well.  The STP packer from Tool Shed Toys (I think it used to be called the STP Fitz) has a couple different kinds using modified medicine spoons and silicone nipple receptacles.  There is also the Peecock, a 3-in-1 packer (pack, play, stp) which is hollowed out so it's a funnel.  The Stand-to-Urimate combines a medicine spoon or Whiz Freedom with a packer (much like the ones from Tool Shed).

I've only used the Shewee, which I love(d), and the GoGirl, which I hated.  I've tried a medicine spoon but it was just too small a receptacle for me.  Apologizes if I've left any major stp devices or packers off this post.

i use a homemade one but ive used the whiz and i liked it but i wished i was more flexible. the instructions for my homemade one is on susans somewhere ill put up a link if i can find it

I'm currently practicing with a homemade one. Of course, with different types of STP products and many types of receptacles, you might find that what works for one person might not work for you. Practice with something insanely cheap and see what method works best for you, then try to find a STP product that functions in a way similar to the one you have made(That is, if you want something fancier than a coffee lid STP, heh).

https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,105720.0.html  I found the link for you.  You say in the thread that the silicone you used to make the stp for the tutorial didn't work as well as the kind you used the first time.  Do you remember what kind did you use to make the original?
