Ask Matt: What are 'Womanly' Behaviors for a Trans Man?

A reader writes: "A comment on your most recent blog post about the transphobic bisexual woman got me (re)thinking about a timeless issue.

"What does it mean (for a trans man) to act womanly or female-behaving? How does one know if they are effeminate or womanly? Is it the processing of emotions that female-assigned people tend to do?"

This is a tough question, because "womanly" obviously means different things to different people, even when cultural differences are not taken into consideration. And "effeminate" is not the same thing as "feminine."
