Are these thoughts normal?

When I'm about to cross the road I have thoughts such as "it would be so easy to just step in front of a car" and/or "I could just step in front of the car right now".
I also have similar thoughts at train/metro stations and when I'm walking across a bridge.

Is this normal? How can I prevent these thoughts without seeing a doctor? In my country (Ukraine) I wouldn't receive correct treatment for mental issues and would probably be branded 'дебил' (retard).

I'm not qualified to say what's normal, if there is a normality , but yes I can relate.

There have been many times that I have thought of walking in front of a big, fast moving vehicle or leaping off a bridge.  For me its because living as a guy and not being able to transition just quite yet is driving me nuts.

So I consider it to be a normal thing for someone who is living with an intolerable condition, but it certainly is not good.

If you feel like you will actually follow through with your thoughts, please seek help immediately; there should be suicide hotlines available to you, they can help.

Stephanie is right zOeY! Suicide is too permanent, unacceptable and is not a solution when there are always fixes to any problem no matter how big it seems to loom before you. The real challenge of becoming successful in  your life is setting a goal for yourself and working through the difficulties to achieve success. I'm speaking in terms of becoming who you really perceive yourself to be at some point in the future rather than resorting to an act of cowardice. I understand that things in Ukraine can be difficult, I have neighbors and associates who have immigrated and are doing well here. Perhaps a change would be good for you where you could get some positive help. Meanwhile, we are here for you dear!

zOeY, I'm not going to address your thoughts, but using the word "retard" in the way you did is not acceptable. It is considered rude and offensive here. I hope you learn to express yourself in a more suitable manner. Devlyn

I would tend to suggest that you change countries. But that's just me. If you ask me, the дебилs are themselves if they treat people as you say.

Certainly, there are psychologists or something for depressed people, are there?

If not, I'm sure you can search online for a therapist in another country who does online Skype sessions. I think there are even a few gender therapists who do this.

Anyway, back to your question, yes, these thoughts are normal... in a depressive, suicidary person who needs swift treatment. You need to speak of your problems and get help, be it from a professional, family member or friend.

Devlyn: She was quoting what people would tell her. It's by far the least offensive way to use the term. Actually, I can't even think of a way it could be unappropriate. Either you misunderstood, either... No, actually, you must have misunderstood.

I'm not sure what there is to misunderstand. No one is calling anyone a retard without me calling them on it. Try "mentally challenged." If you aren't, it really isn't that difficult. I don't expect to hear the "R" word. End of conversation.

No one is calling anyone a retard. The closest translation of debil to english is retard.

That's what I said. She didn't call anyone a retard, she said she would be called a retard. It's quoting, damn it. And censoring or replacing bad words in citations isn't being true to what was said, and is therefore not a good idea.

If they aren't used to insult someone, bad words don't hurt anyone.

Some of those thoughts are normal when there is no one like a therapist to help you along.  I had to squelch those thoughts when I found out that the company I worked for laid off anybody seeing a shrink more often than others.  One of the district managers said in a memo to everyone: "If you are tired, burned-out, and sick of your job assigned, just let me know!"
As for 'дебил', My mom went into mama bear mode when my my 5th grade teacher told her that I was one.  Dyslexia was not known back then.
