Detroit

A Detroit man was ordered Monday to serve 25 to 40 years in prison in the brutal October killing of a transgender teen. Qasim Raqib was sentenced by 3rd Circuit Judge Bruce Morrow after pleading guilty March 7 to second-degree murder charges in the death of Henry Hilliard Jr., aka Shelley Hilliard. Authorities said Raqib mutilated Hilliard's body and set the 19-year-old on fire in the street on Detroit's east side.

The killing occurred days after Hilliard worked with police in an attempt to set Raqib up in a drug deal.

From a related story:

Hilliard was an informant who provided incriminating evidence against her killer. The Oakland County Sheriffs Department said that Raqib was never told Hilliard was involved in his arrest.

Hilliard had been arrested in relation to drugs in the past. She acted as an informant as a bargain for her former arrest.

Hilliard's family was unaware she had been working with police as a drug informant.

The first article posted concerning this henious crime was on November 11, 2011. Now Justice has been served, it won't bring Shelly back, but neither will her killer be free to do as he pleases anymore either, or for the next 25 - 40 yrs. Should have been Life at least.

Rest In Peace Shelly Hillard, you are remembered.

It sounds as if the sentence was the result of a plea bargain.
