I know this is a stupid question, but does anyone do it all the time or not?
I only take my spiro with my food if i can.

could spiro not be working properly because of it?

When I was on spiro, I took it twice daily. In the morning I never had any food with it, and took the pills on empty stomach, in the evening it was usually after a meal. I never noticed any difference, and I don't really think there should be as your body processes everything you consume.

Why is it a stupid question?

My prescription says it helps fight dide effects if taken with food. I do not, because sometimes i dont have timeto eat when i take it. Spiro is working well for me as far as i can tell. My testosterone levels are pretty low.

Because on my prescription bottle it says in big bold letters "TAKE WITH FOOD."

and I'm like, "Bottle, I ain't got time for yo' complicated directions."

I don't think I've ever taken mine with food.  Come to think of it, I've not read the directions either, I just take one a day, usually just before I go to bed.

I take it every morning with an empty stomach and it's working fine. :)

Eh, I take it without food all the time :P That is just there because some people might feel a little sick if they take it on an empty stomach. Not really the end of the world :P

I take mine 2X a day and never paid any attention if I ate or not..

some doctors prescribe medications with food to avoid adverse effects such as stomach pain. Sometimes, it is prescribed to take BEFORE food to have more absorption. Either way, there is nothing wrong with it.

It's been my experience that any "Take with Food" directions are just there to avoid the potential for stomach related side-effects.  Sometimes a cracker or two, or half a granola bar, is enough to stave off any stomach upset that might be looming.  If those aren't consistent for you, if you are not experiencing any related stomach issues, should be all good.

The ones that get me are the "Take with food, but not dairy, and not too much food, between 7 and 8, daily, standing on one foot, gazing East, while not operating any heavy machinery..."   ::)

I used to take it without food, along with estrogen, but after I started throwing up every time I got into the car I decided to eat after taking my medication. The upset stomach has been a little better since then. :P

I often take mine on an empty stomach. My blood work is good so it must be ok. Definitely it is doing the job.

I've learned I hate things that are chalky and have a mint-y flavor.

I down the spiro as fast as I can, otherwise it gets stuck and pastes my tongue something terrible.

Afterwards, I have a bowl of cereal, and I'm fine. Once I didn't (no time), and my stomach got upset...but more because I hadn't eaten anything than because of the spiro, imho. (I try to eat 6 small portions throughout the day, makes my stomach (the organ) smaller and more prone to "I'm empty now--FEED ME!" sensations.)

When I was on Aldactone (spironolactone), as a diuretic, and probably at a lower dosage than you are taking, I remember the directions said it could be taken with or without food.  If it is upsetting your stomach, you can split the doses (morning and evening), or take with milk.

You can always check with your pharmacist.

The reason most prescriptions say to take with food is because your body will absorb it quicker.

I'm not a doctor but this is what I was told when I asked one time.

I never take mine with food and have never noticed any issues but it's definitely working and my levels are all where they should be.

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't.  It depends on how much of a rush I am in.  It has never made me sick either way.

I never took mine with food.  But food should not bother the abrogation of the medicine.
