Ebbtide

Hello,
I have been trying to get more educated about the transgendered community. I was raised in a very conservative religious environment and I am attempting to re-write my beliefs. I want to educate myself so that I can be the best support that I can be to this lovely community all facets of it. Unfortunately, I've been driven online to find these answers, because I'm just not having any luck finding many resources at my local library.

The last thing I want to do is offend anyone, but I'm very new to the entire experience so I apologize in advance if I inadvertently misspeak. I look forward to learning more about the transgender community and the beautiful people who are a part of it. :).

You have come to the right place, Ebbtide.  I want you to keep an eye out for posts made by "Annah," who is a seminarian and well-versed in religious/transgender matters.  She also has a YouTube channel.  I am going to send her a personal message (you can do so after 15 posts) and let her know about your introduction.

Welcome, from southern California.

Just curious, what prompted this?  Do you know any trans people?

And yes, I'm nosy!

Jimmy Durante was "nosy."  You're just curious.

Thank you so much for the welcome. <3. I definitely look forward to watching any of her videos of pertinence on the subject. :). Thank you, for being willing to make an introduction for me while I find my feet on the forum. :).

Well, I've been curious for a long time, but I've been so confused due to my very religious upbringing that I was frankly scared to go and search out some education. My ignorance was frustrating and I just want to be able to be open and understand and (most importantly to me) I don't want to be a member of society who ends up causing pain to anyone due to my own ignorance. I want to be able to be supportive, understanding and just...I think that everyone deserves to be respected and understood. :).

Oh. And I don't know any trans (is that the acceptable abbreviation?) people in my life that I am aware of at this point.

Hi Ebbtide,

Yet again, another warm Aussie welcome to Susan's family. You are most welcome here, and I second Jamie D's suggestion regarding Annah. She is indeed a very clued up switched on young woman.

You indeed have come to the right place. There is no shortage of information, resources and friendships to be gained here.

Hope to hear more of your story in time to come, in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Thank you! <3. Yes, my background has definitely left me ignorant on the issue which is an error I hope to correct immediately. :).
