Could you unknowingly have sex with a transsexual?
by Dr. Maureen Whelihan

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/askalocaldoctor/2012/04/could-you-unknowingly-have-sex-with-a-transsexual/

There has been a lot of press about the 19 year old girl that won Canada's pageant as a contestant for the Miss Universe Pageant. Research revealed that this girl was actually born a male and underwent hormone therapy beginning at age 14 and had sex reassignment surgery at age 19. She is now officially and legally a female according to reports, and will be allowed to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant. That led me to this discussion about Gender Identity Disorder and transgender/transsexual individuals.

First, let me tell you that these individuals live among us and often go unnoticed. I first became familiar with this during my residency when a pre-op transsexual came in for his hormones and breast exam. Eventually we began a staged procedure in my fourth year of residency and I performed the orchiectomy (removal of the testis). My attending was very well studied in this whole phenomenon. Of note, my patient had competed and won the Hawaiian Tropic Swimwear competition and brought photos from the event. She was disqualified because she was still phenotypically a male for the genitalia.

I'm confused after reading that article, not an unusual state of mind BTW. The article itself was supportive for medics taking a medical examination of a TG patient. It basically said be aware that you may meet a female patient who may present with an unusual female phenotype. No ovaries, abnormal breast structure etc (OK she didn't spell it out). But also suggested that thee was nothing wrong with 'these people' and that they had been carefully examined by a team of professionals before sex reassignment so they are kosher.
Then the bizarre title. Having sex wasn't mentioned. I think this was a bit of a medical wake up article that some editor decided to sensationalise up with a totally inappropriate title. ->-bleeped-<- sells so they say.

The illogical  title says it all really.  If it is unknowingly, you wouldn't know would you!

AHAHAHAHA@the pic, that sure cheered me up after the final I just came out of

The title is very misleading..and I think it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can capture the attention of those not familiar to this issue and show them how some people aren't as "fortunate." On the other hand, people can just skim the title and go like "Oh my god there's creepers out there trying to have sex with unsuspecting victims."
Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better. And so are you!

I don't see the question in the blog either...but yes of course it's possible for someone to unknowingly have sex with a Transwoman.

The fact that this person referred to a ttheswoman as he rather immediately has me question the author's true comprehension of the subject.

Besides, it's rather the point of GRS to construct realistic and functional  primary sex orgab... so yea its a rather rhetorical question.

Is it just me....or are they making it sound like we're aliens from a foreign planet that should be treated like we're diseased or am I just being a tad oversensitive?
Being me is the way it should be.
God made me this way so get used to it XD

...or with a trans man, as bottom or top.

And Jamie D - very funny!

The article confused me as well. But because I can't quite see the point.

It seems to be making the claim that transsexual people exist. Duh!

It makes some claims about evidence, though the claims and the alleged evidence are specious. It attempts to assert the claim that this is a matter for the concern of a team of experts. Other than the banker who will pay for it and the surgeon who will do the op, I fail to see why anyone else need be involved.

But other than announcing to the shock and horror of an innocent world that such things exist, I can't really see any point in it at all.
