Hey guys.  This is a question mainly for guys that bind or have binded (bound?) in the past.

My chest has been popping a lot lately.  It's the oddest thing and feels very similar to popping/cracking knuckles, back, etc.  If I put my hands on either side of a doorway and lean into it, my chest will pop.  I believe it's the cartilage between my ribs and sternum.  Occasionally I can just stretch my arms backward or stretch my chest really wide and do it as well.  I have no pain with this.  It actually feels kind of good lol

I feel like it might have something to do with binding for so long.  Either that or hunching over to hide my chest.  Does this happen to anyone else?  What have you done about it, if anything?

That's interesting, JR.  Thanks for sharing.  I think I'm going to see a chiropractor soon because I've been having other issues as well.  Just have to find a good one on my insurance.

You know, I think I remember seeing an orthopedist several years ago for pain in my chest.  They said something similar about things not being fully fused and to give it time.  Hmm...must have been either late high school or early junior college.  Possibly 5 years later, you'd think it would be different by now.

The most popular theory at the moment for people's ability to pop or crack joints is that a small vacuum or pocket of gas forms in the joint, and then is popped out of place. It's harmless and can be quite satisfying, I say enjoy your ability to crack your chest spectacularly! :P

I'm jealous; I can only crack my back (though I can get it in about 40 places), fingers and hips, and it's an amazing feeling. I wish I could crack my chest and relieve some of the tension in it that way! :P

Haha thanks Bane.  I know it's the release of gas thing.  It's just odd because AFAIK the joints in the chest aren't supposed to move.  It does feel good though lol

My concern is now that I can do it intentionally, I may end up doing it too often.  :/  I can crack nearly everything.  Fingers, toes, back (lower and upper), jaw (right side only), neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and now my chest.  Yeah...I should probably see that chiropractor

I don't think its got anything to do with binding, both my boyfriend and Julie have this happen occasionally. I've had it once or twice.
