FIRE Hesperia CA hey high desert folks check in here

I have been out in it all day helping evacuate people and animals. I evacuated 23 kids from a bday party AND 3 huge dogs...fire is now more than 1400 acres with zero containment.

I know a few of you live by me here so please check in. I am going to go to both the people and animal evacuation sites to see if I can help there now.


Where I am living is apx 2 mi west of thje fire. Winds are 14 mph and growing blowing north. Search and rescue folks said winds are piucking up and beginning to swirl and if you are west of the fire stay alert.

OMG, how horrible!  I haven't watched the news today so I wasn't aware of this.  I admire your desire to help whenever you can.  You have a golden heart my dear.   How was this fire started? by the hot weather, accidentally or is it the result of arson?  what hot weather?  it is freezing tonight in this part of Utopia.   Be careful, ok hon?

dropped son off at trailer to get a closer look and headed closer...

I saw houses catch and power poles explode less than 300 ft in fronbt of and to the left of me....it was after this I began going street to street getting people out...

and this one is blurry as I was running backwards trying to get this pic, the power pole was about to blow and I was super close and had to get out quick...after this I went thru the neighborhoods getting people out.

Thanks Tink. I lost all in a fire here about 8 yrs ago, it was called the Willow Fire and it was the biggest in CA history in 80 yrs, my house was considered ground zero and I was doing all the reporting for local tv and radio from the scene. I was the last civilian toi leave and was chased outta my driveway by 100 ft flames with explosions (cars and propane tanks).
I can't smell smoke since without having an anxiety attack so when all this happened to day I had to DO something to help.
No known cause at this time.

I wrote this when we had our fire here that surrounded us a few years ago.  It came to within 8 feet of our home.

Golden grass cloaks
fuel of brush and scrub oak.
Hot air cracks parched throats.
Black smoke chokes.
Heat begets smoke.

F I R E !

Everyone scrambles.
Shovels, picks, axes
Fire eats all in its path.
Beating  inferno's curse
Is not within our grasp
To satisfy fire's thirst

Sirens wail confirming,
Emergency response joining,
Feverish, desperate attempts fail.
Clear minds prevail.
We need more help.

Conflagration consumes all in death
Cherished homes stand in its breath
Our lives in danger, we run
In protective suits they come

Helicopters are called in.
Volunteer crews join in.
Black faces battle in unison.

Lumbering machines carve new paths
Tearing trees away to break
Untravelled roads they'll make
To limit the fire's grasp.

Hundreds of them.

Starting backfires,
reducing the pyre
starving the advancing blaze
protecting homes in the haze

They work four days long.
They save every one.

oh boy, gonna be a long frackin night, winds shifted, they are now SW so this fire is backtracking sideways towards me and
Tomorrow: Mainly sunny. High 76F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph.
Tomorrow night: A few clouds. Low 46F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Monday: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 74F. Winds W at 10 to 20 mph.

FIRE ALERT

4-1-2007 7:45 am - All evacuation orders have been lifted, residents may return to their homes. The fire remains at 2,000 acres burned with 50% containment at this time. Over 150 firefighters with bulldozers and helicopters will continue to fight the blaze with full containment expected by 6 pm this evening

the wind is blowing very lightly south right now....if the winds stay mellow we should all be ok. The heli's are still dropping water. Thanks ya all.

I saw the fire from my kitchen window, I did not realize how big it had gotten.  Glad it is out.
