Would you rather count to 1,000,000,000 or drive for a family trip that lasts 20 hours?
I just had to comment on this one because it got me obsessing. It took me a while but I came up with a way of estimating how long it would take to count to 1 billion. The number of syllables used to count up to a specific number can be exactly calculated, but it takes a while. I've found that you can estimate by taking a number close to it with no zeros in it, count the number of syllables in it, subtract 5% and you will have the average number of syllables for all numbers up to that number. Multiply that by the number of numbers and you have a good estimate of how many syllables in total. So for 1,000,000,000 the estimated number of syllables used is 16,150,000,000. If we use "one-one-thousand" as a reference for 1 second we can see that 4 syllables = 1 second. So from there we have 4,037,500,000 seconds or about 128 years. Given that we have to stop counting for about 8 hours per day (eating and sleeping) that tacks on another 43 years making it 171 years. 171 years of counting, or a 20 hour drive.......

Definitely the dogs, I may die but I would look fabulous doing it!
Would you rather be a builder or one of the crazed dogs?
a builder? I guess.....not sure what exactly that means.
Would you rather smell like a skunk for the rest of your life or be stuck in a tree for the rest of your life?
