One question: is it me or Spiro is actually more important than E?

Can one take spiro first?

Just a thought! :-)

Spiro doesn't have any effect on breast growth per se. If used alone, by blocking the effects of testosterone, it might clear the way for the little natural estradiol males have to produce minimal, usually slow, breast growth, but, yeah.

Anyway, testosterone is a "dominant" hormone. If you take estradiol alone, its effects are going to be greatly diminished by the presence of a lot of testosterone, probably. That's why anti-androgens are so effective. They clear the way for estradiol to act.

About the order, uhm, yes, some endocrinologists prescribe anti-androgens before estradiol. Sometimes, they try estradiol alone first (since by itself it acts as a weak anti-androgen and in some cases it can suffice). And sometimes, they prescribe both at the same time. It's all about the endo's beliefs and the patient's hormone levels, I guess.

I should say though that using an anti-androgen for a long time (many months or years) without taking estradiol can be bad for your health.

Well before HRT I already had some good sized man boobs, probably AA or A cup to be honest. And strangely enough, just after 9 days I started to notice them getting bigger and getting sore, and today, being day 10, they are definitely sore, and I feel more fat on them already. I'm hoping this is a sign that they'll turn out nice and big and natural looking.

That is great to hear :). I have had similar experience as you timewise.

I am now 5 weeks + on hrt and there is definately something going on there. Its even visible now *yay*

They started coming in after 2-3 months, I think. By 6-7 months they were pretty noticable and now after 14 months they're about an A.

EDIT: Now that you've got me thinking about it; does anyone else's areolas kinda puff out a bit (or alot)? My sister said it wasn't normal, so I'm kinda scared they'll always be like that.

My nipples(the whole thing, but saying aeroles sounds dumb) are always puffy when they're aren't hard, they're soft and stick out, kinda like a dome shape.
And when somethings rubs against them or its cold they harden and look "normal".

I've been on HRT for 2.5ish years. Shortly (couple of weeks) after I started, they'd just ache and ache and ache. Now, not as much, but it still happens. They're soft and squishy and whatnot so, yay boobs, I guess.

To the questions about hormones: Spiro alone will probably be used before you get E because you want to clear out the T from your system ahead of time. Get ready... that stuff does FUNKY things to you (it's on-label use is a BP reducer).

Breast development varies but the general rule is that you'll be about your mother's size if you start HRT before 25 and thereafter about 1/2 to 1 full cup size smaller. Older than 40 and things get a lot less likely to develop to any sort of satisfaction. You can't beat genetics though and you'll have about the same number of estrogen receptors as your mom and can't really get around it. I'm a full A but because I'm rather large (38 band) they look small. Extra estrogen won't help this though Progesterone did have pretty good efficacy with me. Having a good endo and a doc who knows what they're doing is also a good thing™. Trust them, give things time, don't be impatient and screw with your dosage.

I got them so fast it's crazy and now since I switched to injectables multiply by ten. My levels are all normal but I guess I just have some extra receptors in there. Plus Im a minor so I'm riding on the lucky wave.

Oh yeah I've gotten that one for a source of mixed pride/embarrassment.

"wow those have gotten bigger since I last saw you."
"huh?"
*Nods at chest* "them"
:icon_redface:
"Yep coming along nicely."
"STOP TALKING ABOUT ME LIKE THAT!"

Sounds like the conversation with my endocrinologist, except I'm proud of mine!! Even if they're only a small B atm.

After six or seven years on HRT in 2006 I was going to have a boob job as my breast growth was pitiful and almost non existent at that time. But 14 years later they have started kicking in. Why it's taken so long I don't know but they are starting to grow now.

Thats an awful long time. Did you change regimens?

I have been on a doctor regulated EE regiment for a little over 8 months now and am a small C cup. I did have a minor case of gyno to start with but not enough to fill an A cup. I only wish the EE had those same effects on the facial side that I have seen on the boobs and fat deposits..

Endocrinologic side effects have been due to the antiandrogenic properties of spironolactone. Five percent to 30% of male patients complained of breast enlargement (http://doublecheckmd.com/EffectsDetail.do?dname=spironolactone&sid=12274&eid=2152).

Personally, after 1 1/2 years on spiro I had some breast growth, but  then when E was added, the growth was significant. Now, after 2 years on spiro and 8 months one E, I have a B cup.

Yes over the 14 years I tried everything I possibly could. Some HRT's and anti androgens worked better than others, some didn't work at all. What I'm taking now seems to work best for me but I'm still trying new things to improve on that. The biggest blow for me was not getting shots at they are illegal in the U.K.

I think the implicit question was: what was the most recent regimen change that seemed to spur those changes?

Uhm... I'm sorry, but it wasn't really a question you can answer in a yes-no manner. I meant, uhm, you know... what the change was.

11 days of hrt:   I can notice something behind my nipples now, kind of hard and sort of squishy too.  My chest is kind of getting a little pointy, my nipples and the area aren them are starting to protrude just a bit, but having a concave chest makes it more obvious:

They already stock out similar to boobs.

Am wearing a whit tshirt today that is kind of long and hangs...my chest is noticeable from certain angles....yikes!  I love it but will need a bra in a couple of months if this continues

A funny thing that happened yesterday.. A guy I have worked with for a couple of years now looked at me in a strange way, his eyes where going from my chest to my arms all the time when we talked. I had a t-shirt on me but did not think that anything would be noticable.

But..... It felt strange, he has never looked on me like that when we talked before :S.

Maybe I am paranoid  :o
